“Mixed, but with some very good points”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We rented the large 4 bedroom "appartment" in July 2013, so this is off season for what is really a ski resort. Its important to bear that in mind as clearly we could not take advantage of skiing, but the resort is right next to lifts.

The appartment was rather like a good sized 4 bedroom house, the level of equipment and its quality cannot be faulted.

* You must take with you or else rent from reception all the beding that you need, this cost 650 Kr for 5 sets which was reasonable.

* WiFi in the room requires that you rent a server from the reception for 200Kr - they actually dropped that fee for us. Cabled internet is included in the price.

* The pool is very small but we saw small kids enjoying it, it is also right in front of reception we guessed that the receptionist acts as life guard / supervisor when people using the pool

* When we first arrived we drove right into the parking area under reception, this was an awful first impression. It is dark and the lights dont work well, the pillars are close together so we went with difficulty up and around in there searching for some obvious end to it. There is rubble and dirt all around in there. What you must do is first go to reception, then they tell you where you must park in there. The door to the basment of your appartment is then next to that parking space. The car park is still horrible though, we all agreed.

* When we were there they were still rebuilding the road to the site, so it was a mess outside - but I accepted that as it was low saeson and a good price.

* It is a short drive into Geilo from the appartments so for a large group I can really recommend this place

* The staff at reception were always nice and helpfull, we did have some things wrong in the rooms which they did their best to sort out.

Spent a week in Havsdalsgrenda in february 2013 in a 67 m2 / 5 persons / 3 bedroom apartment.

The apartments:
Built like a row of houses up the hillside, and very conveniently, the parking is underground, connecting all the levels, and with access to receptions and fitness/spa as well - very good!
The apartment is well equipped but small... the bedrooms are incredibly small and there are no storage space for your clothes - only hooks on the wall.
We were not too bothered, as we were only 4 of us in 3 bedrooms, but if you go 5 people (as the apartment is meant for) or with children - you would probably need to choose a bigger type apartment.
The beds are very soft AND LOW - almost on the floor AND they are not full length!
Both men had their feet sticking out at night...
The kitchen equipment nice and clean but a bit sparse though, -would have liked a few extra bowls, plates and a cutting board for food-preparation...

Skiing:
The slopes and lift is right nearby and the whole Geilo-area connects very well!
For cross-country routes, the are not as plenty and convenient as other places, but still very good!

Facilities:
Nice swimming pool area, but very small - at 6pm completely crammed with childen ;)
The changing rooms however - a complete mess, clothes, boots, water everywhere - some system should be enforced.. best idea is to change in your apartment and walk through the (nice and warm) underground parking area, with just your towel on.
Steamroom was fine, sauna probably also, but was never turned on in advance, so didn't use it.
If you wish to use it, remember to go in an turn it on an hour in advance ;)

Service:
Reception staff was very friendly and tended to our small complaints (missing bedlinen and defective kettle) effectively and fast!

We have just arrived back home after a wonderful week at Havsdalsgrenda. Very happy with our apartment this time and would not dream about staying anywhere else. The friendly service, the closeness to the slopes, the pool and sauna for enjoyment after skiing and also the great New Years Eve celebration with beautiful fireworks and wonderful atmosphere. We love it and will be back! Highly recommended.

The location is the best you can get, ski in-ski out. BUT, the appartments are quite small, at least if you are getting the cheapest ones. Booked trough booking.com, and got a good deal (NOK 6000) for 3 nights, for 6 people. BUT, it's SMALL!!! So, if you are planning to stay indoor alot, go somewhere else. The SPA area is also not thaaat nice, small pool (cold), and the dressing room, and the whole area is nothing compared to the sister-hotel, Norefjell SPA. They could have an outdoor jacuzzi, that would make it much better. And also more ameneties in the locker-room.
No breakfast options either, and no room service- things that would make the appratment-hotel much, much better.

We stayed three nights with extended family in December 2010. Perfect ski in - ski out location. Parking just below appartments.

We were 5 adults and two kids, had appartment with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and sauna + living/kitchen. Bedrooms are OK, would have wanted some more wardrobe space, but bed comfortable. Bathrooms had some problems with water when showering. Livingroom pretty small, not enough space for all guests to sit in the sofa area at the same time, for example. Fully equipped kitchen worked well, but just enough glasses, plates etc. meant we needed to run the dishwasher after every single meal.

We will be back, but will try to find a better appartment this time.
