The breakfast is modest. Hotel really needs an upgrade. The furniture, and everything in the hotel seems outdated. The location is good considering the small town. The staff had troubles with speaking in English.

The staff, the loaction, the breakfasts.. What really impressed and surprised me about this hotel was the friendly staff. I spent two nights at this hotel, and both morning, midday and night staff was superfriendly and helpful in all matters. I love it when nothing is a problem for the staff, and when they listen and help you. I was given helpful advice regarding where to go, what to see and where to eat, they posted my mail for me and came up to my room when I needed a pillow during the night. The breakfast lasts untill 11am, which in itself is big plus, at least for me. Surrounded by a restaurant (Egon) never makes a meal far away. The rooms are big enough, kind of English (with carpets everywhere), clean and simple. Art on the walls. Again, big thumbs up for warm and friendly staff!

I stayed at the Quality Hotel Grand May 7 and 8, 2011. It was absolutely perfect! I was alone, wandering around the area searching my family's Norwegian roots. My single room was lovely, on the top floor, very cozy with a double bed, nice tv, free wifi, big and clean bathroom. The view over the city and lake were lovely.
The people at the front desk were friendly and helpful.
I ate both evenings at the Egon restaurant in the hotel - being alone, I didn't really want to go out. Both meals were delicious.
I would definitely go back on my next trip to the area.

Location is ok, right in the town centre. Close to railway station and bus. If you arrive by car, be aware that the hotel parking is behind the hotel - if you by mistake park at the area in front you'll have to pay. I didn't see any signs to the rear parking area, but was told at the front desk. Too late of course, had already paid for parking by then. Room was spacious and nice, but bathroom was a pity. A small shower in the corner, with only a curtain which is "all over you" when showering. And leaves the entire floor is wet after showering. No hotel bar, but a restaurant which is located in the basement. You can get refreshments as well as dinner and light meals in the restaurant. Breakfast was good, lunch nothing special compared to the common standard of Norwegian lunch buffets. A pub with live music (occationally?) right next door to the hotel. The room I stayed in was quiet, but I guess the rooms right next to the pub may experience some noise. Staff was polite, but not above average service minded. From the overall experience I probably wouldn't bother to stay here again.

Arrival: This was the third hotel we stayed at (for 1 night) as part of a 13 day “Highlights of Scandinavia” Trafalgar Cost Saver trip. As such we didn’t have to deal directly with the staff for check-in. The staff organised our room keys quite promptly and we were checked in within minutes.

Location: Being right in the centre of town, this hotel could only improve it’s location by having a decent view.

Accommodation: We were on the second floor overlooking Air-conditioning unit looking boxes (although the rooms did not receive the benefits) and car park, which sounds (literally) worse than it was. We didn’t hear any noise from either, although because of the C shape to the hotel, catching a breeze through an open window was impossible. The room is best described as “Cosy”, with minimal hanging space. The bed was very soft, ie not very much support at all. It was all clean though. The bathroom was quite large, with the shower having a curtain. The shower head produced a strange cone shaped water flow which was horrid, despite there being plenty of hot water with quite high pressure. Soap on tap. The toilet roll only had one wrap of paper around it and the tissue box only contained one tissue, plus we had to ask for a second hand and bath towel – must have been on rashens.

Food: Diner and breakfast were included as part of the tour. Both were ok, nothing I’d go out of my way for and had the diner not been included, there were plenty of other choices near by.

Service: Although we didn’t have any issues with noise, we did witness a couple of people on our tour complaining to staff the following morning about noise coming from the pub that shares a wall with the hotel (left hand side, until 4 am) and the reception staff just didn’t seem to care at all.

Overall: Good location but not somewhere I’d like to spend any more time in.

Tip: Stay away from the rooms on the left hand side of the hotel. If you’re considering doing this tour and want to see reviews of other hotels, the next hotel we stayed at was the Klingenberg Hotel , (of course by myself - GR8FUN).
