The hotel room, business, could have been marvelous. A lovely bathroom with a shower that I simply loved. Not eco friendly, but I will forgive them. A huge king bed, largest I have seen in any hotel. Lovely mattress, but horrible pillow and mediocre duvet. A balcony facing the fjord, unfortunately dirty and in need of some paint. The rest of the room was worn down. But with a breakfast like they served I am almost willing to forgive everything. Wow. Try it.

I stay at the Rica Maritim every year, and the experience very much varies with the rooms I get. Staying there during the film festival in august, the hotel is fully booked so it's not easy to always the a room (preferably a new one) overlooking the strait in front of the hotel. Other rooms can be from OK to not very pleasant at all, with views directly into a wall, and a feeling the air in the room is really stuffy.
However, my comment this time is about the hotel gym. In short, as more and more guests are interested to keep up their gym routine while traveling, the hotel HAS to shape up as well. The equipment, or lack of such, is laughable at such a large hotel. And it's mostly funny when there's a barbell - but the weights next to it don't with on it. Funny, but useless....

Room Tip: Get a new room with a terrace overlooking the sea - they are very good, while the rooms facing inwards are from dull to quite bad.

I stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights during a business trip to Haugesund.
The location is right by the water and there is an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy a glass of wine if the weather permits. I had lunch in the coffee shop that belongs to the hotel, but did not try the other on site restaurants as there were several other restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast was probably one of the best breakfasts I have seen in Norway with a lot of options. The room I got was called a superior room, but it was really small, so there was nothing superior about it. On the plus side there was a nice little private balcony though. Wifi was free and easy to use. I would probably stay here again mainly because of the location.

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It right on a waterway in the center of town and if were to visit you would feel as if this is the place to be. Norwegians are generally very friendly people and even at this hotel the staff always had a smile for you. Windows open which for me is critcal for anywhere as the climate controls in most hotel rooms don't do it for me. Haugesund is a very sleepy town but if you do visit there are lots of ferries around for visiting the other islands. The bar is nice and food good.

Whislt the hotel was in a very nice location by the water, giving it a seaside feel in a fair dull & industrial feeling township, the hotel felt very much like it was only catering for winter & business visitors as the main restaurant wasn't open during the week because of "summer".

The room itself was ok, though the lack of AC meant having to open the door to the deck which seemed to be an activity for others in rooms near me, as frequently during the night you could hear the popping of latches and sliding of those doors - ie - it was a noisy process.

To sit on the toilet was a bit of a contortionist act if you didnt want the toilet roll hold digging into you and the show, which was almost ontop of the toilet presented other awkward challenges.

If i were there for business and the company i worked for was paying, i wouldnt care to much, but as a paying leisure traveler, i wasnt overly impressed, but to be fair, i wasnt overly impressed with the overall town either, so in this case its not a case of not going back to that hotel, i just simply would never go back to that town at all.
