After having a heavenly time in Sri Lanka, we wanted to spend the last couple of nights in Negombo nearer the airport. We arrived to a hotel that has no doorway on either side so already a huge security risk. The rooms were dirty, pillows stained (one had a worrying white stain all over it), the flip-flops had been used and were dirty and it was incredible noisy. We were in the deluxe rooms and it was still below average. I had an adjoining room to a couple that I did not know and because the door was an inch off the floor, I could hear everything and couldn’t sleep. Another thing, when you are on the terrace, strangers selling things will come right up to you and hound you. Male staff also stare at you, so it’s uncomfortable.
Staff were okay but not as friendly as we had previously experienced. They also will pester you for a tip. We asked for a driver to Colombo and were quoted $90. We found out that Negombo and Colombo have Uber and could do it at a third of a price. When we called the staff up on this, they smiled. They are very willing to rip tourists off.
A positive - it’s on the beach.
Overall, a real fall down into hell after being in heaven for two weeks.
