This is a must do in Finland if u want to literally jump In head first into Finnish culture. The smoke Sauna is a tradition and if u can brave it jump In the frozen lake. Make sure to take slippers or your feet will freeze in the winter when U walk from Sauna to Sauna or Sauna to lake !

Sitting in the Kuusijärvi smoke sauna, it felt like a cross between a community meeting and the witches scene in Roman Polanski's Macbeth. I would say is really worth a visit for a traveller that wants a local and traditional experience. You need to remember your bathers, as the smoke sauna is gender mixed. You can hire towels and eat in the cafe. We visited when it was -21 degrees, and it was still refreshingly nice to dip in the lake.
Things to remember: Most signs will be in Finnish, so learn the words for change room, electric sauna and smoke sauna before you go if you're nervous about asking strangers (I'm like this). If you're visiting in winter, ask about footwear when you pay so you don't damage your feet from walking over the ice to the lake. Take your own shampoo and soap to wash off the soot afterwards. If you use the electric sauna, you can be naked, or stay in your bathers; try to remember in the change room to tear off some paper from the roll to sit on before you enter the electric sauna.

Visited there with family of 3 and also friends. A little lake / pond with brown water which taste a little bit like metal. Warm water during summer time.

If you a short time visitor eg. a transit traveler via Helsinki to other distances and have enough time in your stop - then this might be one new experience to have - now it's a time when lakes are begin to freeze - then also swimming in cold water enables - and of course you can taste sauna at the same visit. From Airport approxm. 10 kilometers. During Summer Seasons this is very popular also. Today there are 2 saunas to choose and also bar / restaurant facilities. In surrounding area many sport activities also available.
I think for those who will arrive from other countries and have some free time for extra refreshment - this is one good choice to take.

At Kuusijärvi you can bath in old fashioned sauna and swim in a small lake.
There are two different types of saunas you can choose - one heated with electricity (separate for women and men) and the other two heated with wood which are called smoked saunas (they are black inside and are mixed with both women and men).
One can relax in warmth after swimming in icy water.
