Reading some of the reviews on here and people are talking about the pack saddle not the horse - the recent reopening is the saddle, some people should be more careful before commenting on the wrong establishment. I am always welcomed by the staff at the pack horse and they do their utmost to make you feel welcome - before you leave a review make sure you have the right place!!

Nice country setting with lots of old world charm and space for the family. Food and service were excellent. Will definatly come here again.

Went for Sunday lunch with the other half and her sister. We made a reservation and the table had our name on it when we arrived. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Food was certainly acceptable, served hot and in a reasonable time. The only slip was when I almost took a mouthful of what turned out to be the greaseproof paper which had been left sticking to the bottom of the sticky toffee pudding dessert, which was unfortunate.

An apology was tendered and a replacement provided, however in my view it should have been offered as complimentary, not because I in any way need the £5 or whatever it cost, but because it's the right thing to do when you serve someone a dish with kitchen/cooking detritus clinging to it.

In short then, decent food, reasonably priced, in pleasant surroundings, they just need rather more attention to detail, and a greater emphasis on the customer.

We had a thoroughly miserable visit to the Packhorse recently. The service was dreadful - we waited the best part of an hour for our food to arrive, during which time the young staff (in particular one very loud and vulgar girl) spent the whole time bellowing across the pub to each other boasting about how much they had drunk last night at the beer festival and how sick they had got.

When the food finally arrived it was laughable. Fifteen quid for 'sea bass' which when it came was a sliver that must have been about one inch by three inches maximum, a couple of forkfuls, accompanied by a nasty sauce which tasted like it came out of a jar. My pie was no better.

Nobody came to ask us how our meal was, nobody came for the bill until we chased them, we just felt like an inconvenience to the staff the whole time we were there.

Horrible food, horrible service. You can stick your loyalty card where the sun don't shine.
