This is an absolutely beautiful place. The owners obviously put a lot of love into the design and landscaping. My husband and I planned to use this as a base of operations for making day trips to Mt. Etna and Taormina, but it's so serene and relaxing, once we got there, we didn't bother leaving to see other places. It's a great place to rest. (We were there in September and there were only a few other guests.)

My only constructive criticism is that the gourmet dinners, while inventive, were unevenly executed. Some dishes were perfect, some overcooked.

If you're driving, don't rely on Google for directions. Just find the village of Riposto, which is on the coast, and make a beeline for the lemon orchards, which are a 2-minute drive inland.

We booked this place for 1 night to see Etna on our way from Modica to Palermo and we wished we could stay longer.
The entire property, hotel, restaurant and lemon grove are fantastic. We got the cheapest room on the ground floor and could not complain about anything. Nice bed, perfect shower, good size room, large bathroom. Plenty of places to relax outside in beautifully landscaped garden. We had dinner and really liked the food.
Nice breakfast with salami, cheese, yoghurt and fruits plus typical italian sweets.
It was easy 1 hour drive to Etna cable car.
If we came to Sicily again we would stay in this place for longer time than 1 day.

We had wonderful relaxing days in La Terra del Mezzo. Staying there for nearly two weeks, we enjoyed the friendly, welcoming atmosphere, the beautiful (very clean!) room with its view over the bay to Taormina and also to the Etna. We had a great time relaxing in the beautiful garden of La Terra del Mezzo, we really enjoyed the exceptionnally good meals, that changed every day (without any really repeatings) - and we were sad that we had to leave so soon.
If we missed anything then maybe some more comfortable chairs on the outside - but we saw some arriving the day we left :-)

Room Tip: On the first floor you have the better view, on ground floor you have a bigger terrace.

There are few things you have to know about this place:
1) it's located in a countryside
2) you can and you have to ask for a bicycle
3) there is no one in a hotel during daytime
4) great dinner
5) at the second part of september the beaches of Riposto are nearly empty, the water clean and warm

I stayed here two nights in middle October, 2012. This B&B is located a few km south of Giarre on a rural road amidst citrus farms. I was greeted (?) by an older gentleman who was, to be polite, gruff. He didn’t seem to be the type to work the hospitality industry. My room was upstairs and was generally adequate. However, there were two small single beds. I chose one, pulled back the cover, and there was no sheet except the mattress cover. I thought this was odd, but I slept there nonetheless, on a very hard mattress. The TV remote didn’t work, so I had to work the channel and volume buttons on the TV itself. The next day I tried the other bed, and low-and-behold, it had sheets. I had chosen the wrong bed, I suppose. On the second day the older fellow seemed in a better mood. Other members of the family were perfectly nice. The breakfast was minimal but adequate. The grounds are very nice, with plenty of seating in the shade and views of the orchard. I would consider returning here if for no other reason than the lovely setting.

Last September we (four of us) spent 16 days touring Sicily and stayed at 8 different establishments, including two 4-star hotels. La Terra del Mezzo far excelled them all and we shall go back there and stay longer if we ever get the chance.
The location is a little out of the way, which is part of its charm. The rooms are clean and spacious; the grounds are lovely; the owners and staff are charming and friendly. The food, including the breakfast, was "out of this world" , even for Italy where food is usually good anyhow.
Add to this, very reasonable prices. What more could you ask?

I will neither come back nor recommend it!!
* The room was very dirty: there was dust everywhere and it smelled bad. We complained and asked the staff to clean it after seeing all the dirt. There was even clothes from previous guests thrown on the floor!!
* Spiders: even being tolerant because we were in the countryside, there were two much spiders and cobwebs on the room (maybe because it was so dirty!)
* After breakfast and before dinner, there was only one person at the hotel, who only speaks Italian!
* The breakfast can be improved. Very limited.

I think there should be better acommodations for the same price.
