“Back to nature in the rainforest”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

What a fantastic experience. We wanted to escape the normal hotel or motel stay so decided to have a few nights in the heart of the action.

Waking up to the chorus of birdsong was a magical thing and Sally and Steve did everything possible to make our stay a really positive one.

Go here ! Go and take in the natural beauty of this place. Take plenty of food if you want to cook in the shared kitchen....or use the lovely restaurant on site.

Try the awesome carrot cake. And the smoothies.

But moreover go with Ocean Safari out to Mackay reef. One of the best things you will ever do.. . Coral and fish and turtles and the wonder of the reef. They were awesome.

And go on the night walk with Possum. Never have I learned so much in such a short space of time with such humour.

Enjoy the difference of Crocodylus.

After checking the site we decided to stay longer than initially planned which turned out to be a great idea. Sally and Steve offer almost everything a travellers heart desires. Steve gladly answers all questions about the local flora and fauna whereas Sally provides gorgeous food. We were blessed with an awesome xmas party incl. lunch, guest presents and even Santa coming by.
The accomodations are spacious and tidy tent huts that fit perfectly into the jungle. We don't wanna miss the experience and the hospitality of our hosts.
Thanks.
Birgit & Josef

Great place to stay to avoid the party hostels. Steve and Sally are excellent hosts and work well together in running the place and making guests feel welcome and at home. Location is right in the jungle, so many animals close by, including one cassowary. Food is very good at the on-site restaurant. Do take the night walk with 'Possum, a local guide who knows the jungle and its inhabitants like his own family. Funny, educational and well-worth it.

We did the two-day sea-kayak trip to Snapper Island with a nice American girl and Steve as guide. It is a fabulous trip. Snorkeling the reef offshore the island was extraordinary. Steve is a great guide, bubbling with both knowledge and enthusiasm. He took lots of magnificent photographs with his underwater camera, and very good videos of us snorkeling amidst fishes above the colorful coral, and shared all these freely with us - in stark contrast to the high prices the Barrier Reef trip operators charge for crummy underwater stills. The materials (sit-on-top double sea kayaks, paddles, stingersuits, snorkel gear, tents, sleeping stuff were mostly brandnew and the meals Steve put together were excellent. A most advisable trip!

Wonderful friendly and informative staff. Possum ,Sally and Steve were so helpful and always generously offering extra service in an idyllic setting where truly you feel one with nature. The sunrise kayak with Steve was one in a million experiences especially followed by a freshly prepared coconut just for us.

A room in the rainforest, a pool, outdoor activities, fine breakfast and dinner, and a convivial atmosphere at night, and sleep to the sound of a menagerie - who could ask for more out of a tropical experience. I did the casual Sunrise Kayak (no great effort required except to wake up), the NightWalk which was informative and interesting (after a while you forget you're deep in a forest!), and the Jungle Archery (I am joining a club this weekend - it was that good). The beach is a walk awaySo all round, a fantastic place to stay. Thank you Sally, Steve, and Possum. I will definitely go again.

You can get up and back and see the sights on the way with any of the tour buses. And don't arrive between 1 and 3pm - it's very quiet.

Room Tip: Check the placement of the overhead fan

Amazingly friendly and helpful hosts and staff. Delicious food in the evening. Thoroughly recommend the sunrise kayak and night walk. A great way to experience the Daintree providing you're ok with the local wildlife. Had a great three nights here, recommend taking a car as really no other way to visit nearby attractions such as Cape Tribulation.
