“A great place to come back to”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2011

Like many people writing in the visitors' book, my wife and I stayed at Crocodylus many years ago and returned for a stay with our kids (11,13). I was concerned that 15 years later it might be worn out but the new owners are doing a nice job of upgrading- while still very basic it is clean and pleasant. There is a great vibe and the staff are all wonderful; from Possum the nature guide to Jim the kayak guide. The food at the restaurant is excellent and the pub is well attended by locals. If you can do the Snapper Island trip it is memorable.

Bring warm clothes in the winter as the forest and the sleeping tents are not warm !

Well, you are here far from the civilization, and that is why it is so exciting! Don't expect too much comfort, you are in the rain forest. But for sure this is a great great place, really cheap. Staff is very nice, always available to share their excitement about nature and fauna. Activities around are fully dedicated to the discovery of a completely amazing world. And if you are lucky, perhaps you can see the very rare cassowary, only existing in this very small north territory of Australia. Enjoy!

Like many people who visit Cape Trib, I came here for 2 nights and ended up staying for more... Crocodylus Village is a great way to live within the "jungle" and really experience the rainforest. The village features dorms and family accommodation in canvas tents scattered amongst trees. The tents are very solid, with a wooden frame and deck out the front of each and are watertight in heavy rain. they are not completely insect proof, so be prepared to share your room with the odd non-venomous spider or two!
The rooms are basic but comfortable, and full linen is provided (including a light blanket in winter). there is also a celling fan but no A/C - not required in winter anyway. My only criticism about the tents is that sound travels through them, meaning you can hear people in the next room talking - and conversely you cannot have a private conversation yourself.
The on site facilities are good - amenities block with plenty of hot water. laundry, pool and a lovely open air dining/bar area. there is a well-equipped communal kitchen, which can get a little crowded at peak times but is perfectly functional, and I was pleased with the number of fridges available. if you decide to take the day of cooking though, or run out of food, they serve a range of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. the dinners are all $15 and are home-cooked, almost counter meal type food. I found the meals to be good value, although if you have special dietary requirements, I'd suggest preparing to self-cater.
Finally, I found the staff to be extremely helpful and hospitable. they took the time to get to know you by name, and were extremely helpful with booking tours, as well as suggesting some of the free activities/walks one could do in the area. next time I go back I'm definitely staying for longer!

I had a really lovely time here. The new owners are really friendly, enthusiastic and seem to love what they do. It is so secluded and peaceful - you're sleeping right in the middle of the rainforest. The design of the bungalow/cabins ensure they are quite low impact on the environment, which is important. The food was great (they cater for vegetarians) and there's a really nice, big communal space and a bar.

If you go you MUST DO one of Possum's guided walks!!!! He has fantastic knowledge of the area and the environment, and is a really awesome, fun guide!

Can't wait to go back :)

Under new management, and are updating and cleaning the place up. Ensuite cabins are comfortable but are lacking powerpoints (charging batteries) and locks on the door. Walls are paper thin and can hear your neighbors every move.

However despite the compromises on the little things, this is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the rainforest.

Location: Smack right in the middle of pristine Daintree Rainforest. Enjoyable stroll to Cow Bay beach which is a lovely beach! The Ice cream factory is worth a visit too :D

Hosts: Lovely people, warm and friendly to all of us :) What made the stay so great was really the chats we had with them over dinner and after.

Activities: We tried the 2D1N Kayaking trip to Snapper Island which is a really awesome and unique experience. Crocodylus is the only group that has the license to bring people to Snapper Island so its very exclusive. The guide, Jim, is a great guide who handles all our basic needs whilst on the trip.

A big regret is not staying longer to go for the walks and other activities. There's a swimming pool but I didn't use it cuz it was kind chilly when I went.

A highlight of my stay there was seeing a Cassowary in the wild crossing the road!

Thank you to the people of Crocodylus for making it such a memorable experience! I wish the new owners all the best and may lots of people have as much fun as I did here :D

We had a really awesome stay there! And we love the rainforest! Do the nighttour with Possum it's worth it!!! Also Cow Bay and the local ice factory are worth a visit and not far. The bar is also nice and you have to try the desserts they sell in the little restaurant there! There is still a good, clean kitchen if you prever to cook by yoursself! Have fun!

Greatings from Max and Anna
