As the #1 Attraction in the Daintree it provides a wonderful introduction to this iconic world heritage destination. The spectacular Canopy Tower and Aerial Walkway allow visitors to explore every level of the forest and Audio Guides in 6 languages are a hit with overseas visitors. But it is it’s innovative Carbon Offset Project that is attracting attention! Part of every entry fees goes towards ‘saving the planet’ via its bio-sequestration scheme. The Discovery Centre is sustainable ecotourism at its best!

I spent several hours at the Daintree Discovery Centre in North Queensland. It was an extremely well done, instructional walk through an ancient natural rainforest region. Wooden walkways and a multi-storied tower took you to all levels of the beautiful green forest around you. You have an extensive hand guide in your detailed Interpretive Guide book as well as an audio guide with a hand-held controller. You have to stop, listen and look closely, often, on this walk or you may think there is nothing much to see other than the lush vegetation, which is really enough of an experience in itself. The forest can be calm and quiet on the forest floor, or buzzing and chaotic as it is in the canopy above the tower. And yet, if you're lucky, you might just see a spider, snake, insect, butterfly or maybe even a cassowary. I happened to look down on the railing beside me and there was a bright green stick bug hanging out beside me. A little girl on the walkway pointed out a hanging sunbird nest to her mother and I asked them about it. I would have totally overlooked this hanging strand of dried grasses and fronds and yet, when I looked closely, there was the perfectly round hole of the nest opening. You will learn as much or as little as you wish about this amazing region by using the guides and your own experience. The more time you have, the better. Relax, walk slowly, use all your senses and at the end, you can relax inside or out in their little coffee shop or browse for a souvenir in their Eco Shop.

Thanks for your review. It’s really pleasing to read your comments, especially your choice of words - ‘Stop, Look and Listen’. The team at the Discovery Centre encourages our visitors to take their time and to ‘look closer’ at the rainforest – there really is plenty to soak in. And those who do are often rewarded.

I won a double pass on face Book so we drove up from Cairns a beautiful 115 km, 2 hours 4 mins drive via the Captain Cook Hwy.
On entry you are given an Audio guide & a guide Book you then go walking through the rain forest on different levels. Not all levels are accessible to Wheel Chairs & Prams. There is a 25 meter high Tower you can climb (I did it YAY) to see the top of the canopy. Make sure you take some water & Insect spray with you. There is a Cafe & Souvenir Shop.

My husband and I made the drive to the centre in our hire car and glad we did the self drive option for the freedom it provided us. The centre is amazing and full of beautiful sights animals and very educational. There is a self guided audio your that is great as my husband listened to everything hungry for the information where I was able to listen when I wanted to and just walk and stare at the beauty around us in piece and silence. The staff are really friendly even offering advise in other things to visit in the area. Easy to locate and self drive to get there.

Really informative and a beautiful spot. This is on the edge of the National park, and has a small cafe. But also has audio guides as you walk through.
