There are other campgrounds within driving distance of this one, both on and off the Cabot Trail. I checked those out on my way. I was considering wandering out to Bay St Lawrence on a day excursion off of the Cabot Trail...maybe make it to Meat Cove.

I was so pleased that I kept driving to Jumping Mouse. Wow. Stay here for a night, or more because you won't want to leave, and make an excursion up the coast to Meat Cove for lunch at their canteen. Beautiful Drive...gravel road. And, as with the previous campgrounds I checked out on my way to Bay St Lawrence, I was glad to have my tent pitched that night at Jumping Mouse. The campsites are great and the views are ridiculous. The hillside campsites, the picture postcard working harbor, the little food co-op in St Margaret Village for supplies, the views from the road to Meat Cove. You'll realize after your trip that you have an inordinate number of photos from your visit to Bay St Lawrence.

We stayed 4 days and enjoyed just everything that was around there: The sea, the harbour, the fishermen (it was lobster season, so all of them were out early in the morning, returning before noon), hiking in the mountains (great views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the St. Lawrence Bay on the other) and along the sea, visiting nearby Meat Cove, unbelievable sunsets (sun diving into the sea) with amazing colours, changing every evening. Not to forget Margrit (still speaks Swiss German with her daughters) as a lovable host who takes care of nature like nobody else does it nowadays. Extremely clean and carefully arranged campground and cabin with lots of handmade details that you encounter nowhere else. When you are looking for nature pure and no crowds, then your are just right here.

What a nice little spot to pitch a tent. The view was without a doubt the best I've had camping on the east coast of canada. The woman who owned the place was friendly. The main building had lots of extras for the forgetful camper (seriously, I forgot to pack mugs/cups...). I learned one thing though, never trust a cape bretoner who says they're calling for a "little bit of wind." Our tent blew over with us inside of it.! With that said, I would stay here every time I went to cape breton, if you're on the cabot trail, do yourself a favor and make the detour to the top of the island!

Jumping Mouse provides a wonderful camping experience in a lovely location overlooking the ocean. The tent sites are terraced into a grassy hill with trees and meadow between each site for privacy. The shower was hot and the outhouses were clean. I enjoyed the "back to the earth" atmosphere of the place which resonates through the landscaping and the facilities, such as the artfully placed whale bones and the shower built onto the side of the barn...the only minor irritation was that the fishing boats made a lot of noise when leaving the harbor, so sleeping in was not easy. But this meant I was awake for sunrise, so no complaints!

We stayed at their cabin, which was wonderful. A small, quiet campground.

The host, Margrit, was very accommodating and amazing. The cabin has two bunk beds, so as a couple this was our night to sleep apart. The view of Bay St Lawrence is amazing. In the morning we watched the boats do their fishing thing.

The other camp sites we browsed at this location were well groomed. They weren't crowded together side by side, which was nice to see in a campground.

The hot showers, electric kettle, WiFi and books were available at the office.

Only thing that a non-seasoned camper would probably have issues was, the traditional out-house toilet. No flushing toilets at this site. Neither my boyfriend or I had issues with it, it was very clean and less than a minute from the cabin.

Wow. This is definitely one of the most gorgeous spots in Canada. It is a very small, quiet nook at the end of the world, right on the Atlantic Ocean. My partner and I spent an amazing evening watching the sunset and literally WHALES feeding, all right from our picnic table. If you're looking for simplicity and quiet (also no mosquitoes!!!), you've found the right spot. No frills, but clean and everything you need for a "back to the land" adventure.
