Well ,what more could you want?
We live in the area and have been customers of this pub in it's various guises for many years.
Only this year it has been taken over by Rob and Joyce whose aim is to return it to a local pub that welcomes everyone. They are passionate about good beer and good food.
It was a Monday night, curry night and we were treated to an excellent veggie curry, lovely vegan beer (From Marble brewery, Manchester) good company in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was a wet and windy night outside but warm (real fires) and welcoming indoors.
So, it's a real pub again.
Give it a visit...

Seven of us dined here in shifts two nights on the run. All of us liked the beer and the bar with real fires. The food, though a bit pricey, was excellent, and the service good and friendly. Highlights were the steak and mushroom pie and the Druid burger - both let the excellent quality of meat show through. You may need to book at weekend.

Improvement could be made by looking at portion size: the pie and the burger (which comes in a frying pan) really took some eating, while the chicken and duck, though very good, were much smaller, And it would be nice to lose the plastic sachets of vinegar and sauce when everything else is so well presented.

Minor quibbles though. It was surprising that all seven of us found it really excellent two nights in succession.

We visited the Druids Inn on the recommendation of our B&B (The Old Shoulder of Mutton). It was a Monday, so a limited menu curry night, but I can honestly say I've never had a better curry. The service was friendly and efficient too. We took a detour the next day on our walk to pop in for lunch, and can also recommend the mezze plate which was generous and fresh.

On holiday in Derbyshire and on a cold, wet Sunday we walked over the fields from Winster to Birchover. The Druid Inn had been recommended to us as being a great place to eat, but, to be honest, the outside did not look very inviting. We passed the Red Lion, which looked nicer, but decided to go with the recommendation. Despite not finding the entrance easily - I think the door had warped with the damp! - we eventually found ourselves inside and boy were we pleased that we did!

The welcome was tremendous, there was a big, roaring fire and the atmosphere was great. We ordered 'light bites' a home cooked fish finger sandwich for me, and I can honestly say that I have never had better fish (and batter) anywhere. Chips were good too. My husband had a hot sirloin and stilton ciabatta which he said was delicious. The table opposite ordered the seafood platter which looked, and they said it was, amazing! Twice the size and half the price (£25) that you might expect! They ended up taking at least half home with them in a doggy bag.

I also heard someone compliment the waiter on the 'best nut roast she had ever tasted'. She was told that one of the chefs was vegetarian.

The quality of the real ales on offer was great and we got to sample each one before we ordered!

I thoroughly recommend this pub!

Do go if you are in the area - this pub deserves all th custom it can get.

I visited this pub with three friends and we loved our waitress. She was a real sweetheart and nothing was too much trouble. The beer-battered haddock was excellent with the lightest and crispest batter. Chips were less good. We had a lovely evening in front of a blazing fire and found the owner of the pub to be very warm and friendly. Good art on the walls too.
