Just returned from a relaxing weekend and have to stay from the arrival into the grand entrance with the warming open fire to check out we toughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in The Kerry Suite and its one of the most comfortable bed we have ever sleept in.
We experienced a winter wonderland with the heavy snow the grounds looked so pretty. We visited Ludlow we worth a visit call at the food centre picked up some delicious welsh cheese.
We ate in the resturant on both nights and the fillet steak is best I have ever tasted, the breakfast was freshly cooked and very tasty.
It's a nice find not to be a chain hotel but a family run hotel, all the staff are friendly and could not help us enough. They are all knowledgeable of local places to visit, with AA route finders printed out for us we seen some of the best scenery in Wales .

We accepted an offer in December 2012 with Travelzoo for two nights bed and breakfast in a standard room with one dinner which would normally cost £400.00 for £195.00.We were celebrating our Pearl wedding anniversary and both our birthdays on 16th March 2013 (so it was to be a special weekend). When we booked in December all the standard rooms on the 16th were booked. On our departure we paid an extra £120.00 for the upgrade to the Kerry Suite.
When we arrived we were very impressed with the location and the original features of the wonderful wood panelling in the reception only to be spoilt by vases of dead lilies and a very gloomy fish tank. We were shown to our room (the Kerry Suite)- the view was very disappointing as we overlooked a parking area, dilapidated buildings and a large static caravan park which was a big surprise! The room was clean except for a large unsightly stain on the carpet near the door partially covered with a rug. We had problems with the tv channels only getting BBc1 BBc2 The hotel tried on the two days we were there to remedy the problem to no avail. The battery casing on one remote was missing which did not help. The lighting in the room was very dull- not very good if you wanted to read. We did not have a very good night’s sleep due to the discovery that the mattress was covered with plastic which made for a very warm uncomfortable night’s sleep. This room is normally £185.00 per night
We had breakfast which was good in a lovely restaurant room with more fantastic panelling spoilt with vases of dying daffodils and tacky nick nacs on the lovely fireplace, which had the remains of parcel tape on it? The hotel seems to be catering mainly for wedding packages as we found with the array of past weddings on the walls, wedding albums and special offers everywhere. Not really set up for weekend breaks. There was very little information on places to visit and local interest as would normally be expected in a hotel.
We were shown into the bar area before our evening meal and to take our order for dinner. No wine list offered on either night. This was the worst room in the hotel- more dying daffodils, soulless and gloomy. We were glad when we were taken into the restaurant. The meal was hot although the fillets (£7.50 supplement each) were sinewy and they were vegetables which consisted peas, carrots and broccoli. More pub food than fine dining - not up to expectations.
We feel the hotel is not consistent in many ways. It has many lovely original expensive features but is let down badly with shabby inexpensive furniture, pictures and objets d’art. It would benefit from some investment to bring it up to the standard it once was and what is expected today.
We both agreed that even the special offer was not worth the stay and we were glad that we had not paid the full price.
Unfortunately our special weekend will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Room Tip: Try for a room at the front without a view of the caravan park and delapidated buidings

Excellent and responsive staff and food, but some basic TLC missing from the infrastructure. Great location on Offas Dyke for walking. Gothic building and characterful rooms with modern bathroom (at least ours was).

Wow, what a fabulous place to stay. The hotel is a very impressive Grade 2 Listed Building that is about 150 years old, standing in acres and acres of grounds.
We were greeted by a really lovely and friendly receptionist, who after checking us in helped carry our cases up to our room (as a listed building there are no lifts). She also asked if we wanted any help carrying them out to the car when we checked out.
We stayed in the Mainstay Suite. Our room was really quite large, with a lovely large sofa, very large slimline tv (with Sky) bigger than average bed with a canopy over the bed-head. The bed was also very comfy.
The bathroom was equally as impressive, with a large bath and shower unit. In fact everything about the suite was very tasteful.
There was an amazing log fire in the lounge, which was very welcome in the recent cold weather that we have had, and it was lovely to be greeted by it first thing in the morning coming down to breakfast. We had a three course meal which was very nice and breakfast was ok.
All the staff were very helpful and also friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be making a return visit.
During our visit to the hotel, we visited Ludlow, which shouldn't be missed if you can help it. We also visited Much Wenlock, another place that is worth a visit.

We have eaten at Mellington many times but were very disappointed this time. We had to wait 45 minutes to be shown to our table, some of the food was undercooked and some was OVERcooked! All in all a deeply disappointing experience which was somewhat helped by the reduction on the bill but we certainly wont be hurrying back!

Have just returned from a stay at the Mellington Hall hotel. The hotel is absolutely stunning, beautiful country manor house with very pleasant staff & wonderful hospitality. We were fortunate to be upgraded to the Mellington Suite due to our original stay being cancelled due to the snow & we were so glad it was. The suite is absolutely beautiful. I was not sure if I felt like a lottery winner or a princess but either way, it was stunning. We had the afternoon tea with champagne which again was lovely & also dined in the restaurant for dinner. I had the oven roasted chicken supreme & my partner had the lamb shank. Very reasonably priced and the chicken was the nicest I have ever tasted. We were too full for the dessert menu but fancied cheese & biscuits which were not on the menu, however the lovely staff went and made a cheese platter up especially for us, which was a really nice touch. We had made use of one of the special offer vouchers and were completely delighted with everything. I work in the travel industry and this hotel will definately be top of my list to recommend to my clients.

I have read the rave reviews on Trip Advisor so was surprised by a few things we experienced at this hotel. It has an air of faded grandeur about it and although at first sight it is quite an impressive building, a second look shows that a good proportion of it is not in use and it looks quite neglected. Our room was ok, great views over the countryside but it was small and the ensuite lacked a bath. The carpet was blackened in the corners with damp (from the leaking shower?) so maybe we were just unlucky not to get one of the better rooms?

The bed was beautifully made up with fluffy pillows and crisp white sheets so I settled down to what I thought would be a lovely nights sleep. Wrong! The matress cover was lined with plastic which made for a very uncomfortable night. I thought we had checked into a hotel, not a nursing home!

The food was excellent, both at breakfast and in the evening. The bar was very cold and uninviting so we only managed to stay in there long enough for one drink (ice cold red wine!). All in all, a mixed experience
