Le Frene located in the little hamlet of La Maure, Campsegret is the best guesthouse we have stayed in throughout our travels in Europe. It has been beautifully and thoughtfully restored by Ali and Greg - the owners, who are warm and friendly and extremely helpful. The interior decor is amazing. We stayed in the gorgeous gite, which is separate from the main house and were very impressed by how brilliantly equipped it was for a self catering stay. It is also beautifully appointed, spacious, airy and sunny with lovely views of the garden and surrounding countryside. You can elect to lounge next to the lovely large swimming pool or make use of the great barbeque area overlooking the pool. The surrounding countryside has enchanting villages with some great produce markets, which occur twice weekly. Ali and Greg know the surrounding areas very well and are always on hand to offer advice if required.
We elected to join the other guests for breakfast and were delighted that we had.
Ali prepares the most wonderful breakfasts - fresh fruit juice, crusty bread, warm flaky croissants, an array of home made preserves, cheeses, charcuterie, yoghurt, fruit and nutty granola pots, home made tarts and the fruit and vegetables come straight from their potager, which is industriously tended by Greg.
We had a magical stay at Le Frene and would highly recommend it to everyone!
Ali and Greg are by far the most hospitable yet unobtrusive hosts I have ever come across! Their attention to detail is unrivaled. Warm croissants accompany hot coffee in the morning and are a perfect way to start planning your day. Sit under the outdoor pergola and breathe in peace before setting off for nearby chateaux’s, vineyards and picture perfect villages. Greg’s garden is a wonder and Ali’s ability to run the household seemingly effortlessly, is testament to their combined commitment to every guest. I will return without a doubt.
Ali & Greg were fantastic hosts, there home is beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix of paintings, photography, furniture and books, all perfectly visually balanced. We were made very welcome with a lovely breakfast. It was a very relaxing stay on our first nights of our road trip adventure around France. The pool and the landscaped gardens were relaxing and tranquil. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and they recommend lovely walks which we were accompanied by the neighbors dog.
Ali & Greg had loads of great recommendations of where to visit within the surrounding area. They booked us into some fantastic restaurants on an evening.
We would highly recommend staying there and hope to return some time.
Tim and Mel.
We had 3 wonderful weeks in the luxury Gite, the attention to detail in the eclectic contemporary Gite was a surprise at every turn.
From pure linen on the beds to every pot, pan and appliance made our stay extremely comfortable.
Campsegret, is central for traveling and exploring the Dordogne, we travelled north south, east and west through gorgeous countryside finding castles, chateaus and wonderful food and wine.
We can highly recommend at least a 2 week stay with Ali and Greg in the Gite or their B&B, perfect hosts makes for a perfect holiday
Fully self contained with all new kitchen. Great location as a base to explore region. Very friendly and helpful host, nothing too much trouble.
The Gite is independent of the house in whose grounds it stands with large gardens, swimming pool and ample parking. Being in countryside some 20 minutes drive from Bergerac, with its airport, it is perfectly situated for exploring the Town and the Dordogne area - and for local walks or just relaxing.
We loved the stylish gite and had to force ourselves to get out and about and visit the stunning surrounding scenery.
Ali was incredibly helpful with tips for places to visit and eat out, in fact nothing was too much trouble for this gracious host.
We enjoyed every minute of our wonderful stay.
