A month ago my wife and I call by chance and really enjoyed our meal. Last Sunday we booked for the family and looked forward to any great experience.
Sadly, we were not so happy this time. We arrived on time and our table was pointed out rather than being shown to it. For the next 25 minutes we watched the staff serving all around us, but took no notice of our table. Eventually, I saw one of the staff taking time out by the bar and went over to enquire as to why we were being ignored. The response was 'Oh, I'll get some menus'.
When we got our food it was quite good, although not as good as on our first visit. The vegetable were a bit watery from over cooking or standing too long; and the cheese on the cauliflower was not fully melted.
My recommendation would be to make sure you book for an early meal before they get busy.

Just returned from the Fishing Boat Inn after having lunch with my husband and friend. We had a wonderful view out of the window over the sea it was beautiful. Lunch was very relaxed and the welcome was warm. The staff and owners were all very friendly and catered for our every need. The food was very tasty with good sized portions. We all enjoyed the local real ale and we will return another day. Thank you

Wanted to give this place a second chance after an unwelcoming first experience, mainly because of the view from the conservatory. Things haven't changed. The barman/host/owner? looked as if we were little more than a nuisance, he was sullen and unhelpful. The selection of beers was even more limited than on our first a year ago. The menu looked promising and we had a reasonably good lunch, but the prices were higher than the food and welcome warranted. The drinks prices were over the top. The experience made us realise that good customer service and a warm welcome, which is generally the norm in Northumberland hostelries, is every bit as important as the food and environment. We won't be back unless we hear it has changed hands.

Great views from the restaurant which is built out over the beach. Fairly standard pub food menu. Food was well presented but disappointingly average.

We were out for a leisurely walk along the coastal path from Alnmouth and came across the Fishing Boat Inn by chance. We dropped in for a bite and a drink before setting off back and were very pleasantly surprised. We were lucky to get a table overlooking the sea and thoroughly enjoyed out visit. Will definitely return as and when we walk that coast again.
