We thought we were staying in Kanchanaburi, the site of the Bridge over the River Kwai. In actuality, the Kwai River resotel is about an hour west. And then you need to take a 10-minute ride in a longtail boat to get there.
Because of its setting in a jungle, the hotel is unique. Guests stay in little octagonal bungalows that feature a bedroom and a bath. There is a TV but WIFI doesn't reach. Cell service is spotty.
The pool is located next to the lodge/reception area/dining room. It's all open-air and rustic. Critters are common.
The food was good, although the breakfast buffet was more limited than in other hotels in Thailand.
My biggest problem was bugs. They were everywhere, which made sitting outside or swimming a challenge to one's will.
Given a choice, I would probably stay closer to Kanchanaburi next time.More
