“Adventurous cave boat ride...”
Review of Khao Kob Cave

Khao Kob Cave
Ranked #1 of 4 things to do in Huai Yot
Attraction details
Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

Tham Khao Kob is a mid-sized cave which is only accessible by boat due to a small stream running through the cave.

The local administration office offers boats and boatsmen to explore the caves. Entrance fee 300 THB/boat.

The cave consists of several chambers which are accesible on (dry) foot inter-connected by a small stream.

The last stretch (approx. 600m) is quite adventurous as one needs to lie completely flat in the boat to be able to pass through the narrow parts of the cave.

Some small buddha images mark the exit. A donation is well recieved as one made the exit after all.

Monkeys can often be seen outside the cave.

Khao kob is a network of caves at the base of a mountain and is well known for the stalactities and stalagmites. You pay 300 baht for a boat that comes with a guide and a navigator. They guide you into the first set of caves and you are asked to lie on your back to prevent your head from bumping into the low ceiling which is filled with interesting rock formations. You get to a drop off point and then the guide takes you in with a flashlight and points out all the interesting rock formations. However the most thrilling and exciting part of the tour is when you get back on the boat and go through the narrow cave where the roof is just a hair's breadth away from your face and the navigator is pushing the boat by clutching on to the roof. The passage is so narrow that a minimum of 5 people need to be on the boat in order to prevent it from gettting stuck. Seeing the rock formations pass inches from your face is quite exhilarating and at times it feels like the overhanging rock is going smash into your face. If you are a bit of a thrill seeker (and do not suffer from claustrophobia) this one is definitely for you.
