Great attraction in a charming Isan community! Lots of exhibits in excellent English about the geology of Thailand, and the history of dinosaur fossil discovery in this region and beyond. I went with my wife and enjoyed myself, but this would also be an excellent (and educational!) stop with kids. As it stands now, the museums has two floors full of dinosaur fossil exhibits and life-size models, and when we went in June they were constructing a whole new exhibit that should be set by fall 2013 that will also feature moving, life size dinosaurs. Also has an awesome gift shop full of handmade dinosaur crafts and clothing from the local occupation groups.
Friendly staff, and only about 3K from the gate of the Phu Wiang National Park, where you can hike short nature trails and check out the fossil sites. Admission fee to the museum for adults is 60THB. Both the museum and the national park can be reached easily from Khon Kaen by a van that leaves from the Khon Kaen bus terminal every other hour from 6AM until 6PM. A one-way ticket from the Khon Kaen bus terminal to the park or the museum is 100THB, and the ride is about 90 minutes. If you have your own wheels, be sure to also check out the market (dtalat nut in Thai) at the nearby Naimuang village town hall (held every Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights) for some fresh produce and local flavor.
