“Excellent resort but not great value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

I stayed here for 4 nights during the new year holiday season. The beaches and ocean on Koh Kradan are some of the best in Thailand. The rooms at Seven Seas are very modern and comfortable, the service is excellent, and the restaurant is one of the best on the island. However, the prices are very high and the lower priced rooms, which are still more expensive than higher priced ones of their competitors, are located in the back with no view of the ocean. Almost all other bungalows, including ones priced as low as US$30 a night have ocean views. This resort is great for couples or families with young children that want to have everything in one resort.

Room Tip: I would recommend deluxe sea-view rooms for the best value. The villas in the front are almost the s...

The pluses:

- The rooms are lovely and spacious and the beds are huge and incredibly comfortable. Really happy with this aspect and the pictures on the website are very accurate.

- The beach is stunning. You'd be hard pushed to find bluer and clearer water anywhere.

- Great cocktails.

- The staff are lovely and always try to help the best way they can.

- Great European food. I think I might have had the best burger of my life here.

The minuses:

- Completely overpriced. The food is incredibly expensive and way more than I have ever experienced in 20 something years of travelling to Thailand and going to remote islands. They try to tell you it's be because of the overheads of transporting supplies from the mainland and they also scare monger you in the "Welcome note" by implying that they "can't take responsibility for guests getting ill from other restaurants on the island." Strange welcome and an little bit defensive of their extortionate prices. Beers were about £4 at Sevenseas, you could get them for £1 next door at the Kradan Beach Resort.

- On every food bill 17% is automatically added. This consists of a 10% obligatory service charge and a 7% tax charge. This makes every bill even more expensive and is not something that is generally done in Thailand. I wouldn't have a problem if this was mention to me up front, but it wasn't.

- There was trash in the bathroom. Consisting of cigatettes and sweet packets. Our rooms smelled like sewer at times.

- Mosquito prevention needs to be upped. We had holes in our mosquito nets in the 2 rooms we were in and the outdoor bathroom obviously was mosquito heaven.

- the beach is not the quietest beach around. There are constant streams of daytrippers visiting and it can get very busy during high season.

- Check out was very very very slow.

- At times we had to wait an hour and a half for food. The whole resort is severely understaffed.

Overall:

It's probably the nicest option on the beach, but not the only option. If you do want to stay on koh kradan, have a look into the 3
Other resorts on the island.

I will definitely be visiting Koh Kradan again but next time I will do the following. Either:

- Stay at the Anantara Si Kao in Trang which is a proper luxury hotel which has a set up on the island for day trippers. They run a free daily shuttle boat to the island,

- Or stay on Koh Muk and take a taxi boat across.

Perfect balance between confort and simplicity. Not pretending to be luxury, provides the basics with friendly elegance.
The best place to stay if you are looking for a peaceful paradise to take a rest.
The natural setting helps; water landscape are striking.
No pubs, no crowds, slow internet connection, slow "thai" food, friendly service, the good ingrediends for the perfect holiday.

Reviewing The Seven Seas is difficult because while i feel the resort is good, i dont believe the island is worth the trouble.

The hotel has been mislabeled as having 'rusty water' this is not true. Anyone who has stayed in remote places where water is collected by natural means, e.g. rain water and bore water, will know the water is discolored and have a weird smell not suitable for drinking. But you should already know not to drink water in Thailand anyway unless its from a bottle.

I found the resort very clean and peaceful, the staff were very friendly and the restaurant is not overpriced, the free breakfast was very good, bacon eggs, lots of toast and fruits.

My two warnings would be, don’t leave any food or drink laying around, ants get to it RIGHT away, and don’t expect anything other than you and the sand and ocean, it is totally isolated and quiet, no shops, no clubs, no anything.

My main concern was the island and beach itself, the water is quite blue and stunning and so warm i couldn’t believe it was like sitting in a bath, i loved it, but upon high tide in the morning while walking along i noted at least 20 empty plastic bottles, a florescent office light globe, a deodorant can, broken glass and many other small things, which was really disappointing because from what I’ve read it was meant to be the ''pearl'' of Thailand and totally pristine....and it was far from that considering the time and offer it takes to get there, that’s was really disappointing, there are much better and cleaner beaches in western Australia

As i said i have no issues with the resort itself, lovely people and a fine place to stay, the beach is also pretty but needs improving.

Room Tip: get beach front or near to the beach if you can not at the back

We came to this resort and were met by 2 lovely friendly staff. From the trees enters vicious dog one teeth showing and growling. Then the dog ran up to the rest of our party and my seven year old daughter was terrified. When all the commotion started dog 2 enters from the bushes and it is a repeat effort - teeth growling and attack stance

The staff were also scared too and could do nothing but apologised and informed us that they were the resort owners dogs!!!

VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE - we couldnt get into the resort nor will be back - BEWARE

We spent nine wonderful days at the Seven Seas Resort from 11 to 20 January this year. It was indeed a joy to stay on such a beautiful island in a state of pure relaxation without even the temptation to visit a shop as there wasn't one! Literally two minutes’ walk away from our room was the beautiful warm sea with excellent snorkelling with close contact with all the pretty fish guaranteed even before you start swimming! The staff were so helpful, friendly and courteous that we felt well looked after all the time, so much so that it was quite sad to leave them. A romantic dinner on the beach with a specially composed and beautifully presented sea food menu is also an absolute must, as is a short walk to the other side of the island to see the spectacular sunsets! During my travel in Thailand, I decided to come to Koh Kradan for some relaxed beach days and stood in the Seven Seas Resort for three nights. I booked this resort because it appears as the only one on this island (which is completely not true since there are many other cheaper and better options!).

The following points made my stay at the resort a really unpleasant experience:

- the room had an open bathroom which allowed mosquitoes and other larger-sized insects to enter and which made shower-taking a nightmare! (They will tell you that an open bathroom is traditional in Thailand but staying in over 10 hotels in Thailand I've never encountered something alike)

- the room was in the back of the resort, no beach view, just dark jungle. The room also had poor lighting.

- the water was smelling like oxidized copper on the first two days because they use copper plumbing and probably the pipes were not used for some time. Usually copper is used in decorative pipes...

- every day we received two sealed water bottles (which is a normal complementary service in Thailand) but on the last day the water bottles were not sealed. They have been opened before and they were refilled with (smelly) water.

- the internet did not work in our room (despite their claim that you have it in every room) and for access we had to sit next to the reception behind the egg-maker and the breakfast buffet (there are no other power outlets), making it really uncomfortable

- the absolutely over-priced restaurant did not have all the food options available and a terrible service. The food was average and despite their claim that they are the only restaurant on the island that got approved my the health ministry, my girlfriend felt sick for the first time in weeks after eating there. Don't eat there. There are plenty of other options available on the island, fresher, cleaner and cheaper food.

- Buying a speedboat ticket with the resort, you are being completely scammed: the receptionist told us that it was a direct speedboat to Koh Lanta (and we asked her about three times if that's really true). It's really expensive and you will end up in an over-crowded "speed"-boat that will stop in every island on the way, cramming more people into the boat making the bags being used as a carpets because it's too full. We regret not choosing the cheaper and better ferry option.

- the swimming pool is a joke. The water flowers would make it look as what it really is: a pond.

Now, I'm not a person who is very exquisite when it come to hotel rooms but having paid for three nights the amount I would have paid for 2 weeks in other hotels, and this resort having 4 stars, I can't help but feel completely disappointed and ripped-off.

Room Tip: My tip is not to stay here at all, but if you do, ask to be more close to the beach as possible and...
