“Really good!”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

A lovely pub, obviously popular. We arrived early for a weekday lunch and just as well as it got busy very quickly.
There was an excellent choice of decent food, from sausage and mash (local wild boar and apple sausages-which were delicious) to Sole with new potatoes. The pie we had was full of the tenderest local meat braised in Guinness.
It arrived promptly and hot.
There was a garden with a small play area for children.
All in all very worth another visit, as nothing to fault.

“Great every time”
Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

We've eaten here many times and are yet to experience a bad meal. The chef is very talented and I usually try his specials but the burgers are popular too and are very tasty. The menu offers something for all tastes and the pub has a really nice atmosphere.

“Excellent food, fresh and well presented.”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Good selection of local fresh and traditional dishes. I had Whitebait for starter and Spit Roast BBQ chicken for main. Both were well cooked, very tasty and well presented. Other people in the restaurant at the same time were commenting favorably o n the food also.

“Great value family pub”
Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

We took our noisy mother here for supper on a Friday night, and happily the pub was busy enough to drown her out.
Food was good - served by pleasant waitresses. Bar service was efficient.
Note - portions are massive. The fish cake starter portion would serve as my main course.
Plates were hot , and the food was all freshly cooked.
Nice selection - basic but adequate.
4 main courses - 2 puddings - under £55.
Children's menu.
Dog - friendly.
As I'll be living 100 yards away, I think I'll get to know The Star pretty well! Especially as ladies eat for half price on Mondays.
Cheap date anyone?

“Great quaint pub”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We loved this place. Classic pub food, sausages and mash, and a steak burger, but they were amazing!! I wanted to finish every bite but couldn't. I really wanted the crumble but I was just too full. Great value for money. Even the house rose was really nice. The atmosphere was lovely, relaxed and casual. There was a live musician which was nice. They were a bit busy, but we didn't mind, they even gave us a free drink because of the wait. Staff were lovely, even if unattentive/too busy.
Tiny thing, there was no option to tip through the card machine and we didn't have any cash, so really disappointed that we couldn't tip them, they definitely deserved it.
Dinner night before this was at the Cyprium bar at the Marriott, the food at The Star was 4 times better, and the prices much more sane (burger £15 compared to £10 at the star).

I would definitely recommend this pub for lunch/dinner/drinks if you're in the area. Would suit family/couples/group of people young and old.
