Stayed here for two nights in October the weather was unseasonably warm, which made the stay even better.
The rooms were good sized with wall mounted 20" TV, our room was well located, although the view from the window could have been better( shrubbery blocking views of the canal)
We traveled for a birthday party and all 20 + people who stayed here thought the pub was excellent.
nice canal walk close by and Barton Grange shopping village is ideal to relax after the night before.

The staff were brilliant throughout our stay making us really welcome, the food at Lunch, Dinner and breakfast were hard to fault. and good service provided.

We would definitely recommend a stay here, and we hope to re -visit soon.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times over the years, and always really enjoyed myself. The setting is beautiful, on the banks of the canal. Both the restaurant "Guys" and "Old Nell's Tavern" serve great value, quality food in relaxed surroundings. The refurbishments of the rooms is excellent, and our family room was excellent, very roomy and beautifully decorated. I really can not fault this hotel, and my four year old son loved our stay too, lots of room for him to play, we will definetly be back.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough! I've just read the bad reviews on Trip Advisor and I can only guess that those people stayed before the recent refurbishment.
My partner and I stayed last Saturday night and we were so amazed by how gorgeous the room was we had to force ourselves to go and have something to eat!
We only had a standard room but the bed was huge and MEGA comfortable and there was a full-size sofa in there too! We almost needed binoculars to see the TV as the room was massive. The sink was around a corner (hidden) and the toilet and shower room were adjacent and it was all immaculate. We had windows at both the back and front of the room - a beautiful view of the canal from the back and a view over the square from the front. We really did not want to leave the room!
Anyway, we did and we had a gorgeous meal at the Guys restaurant which was also excellent value for money. My only, very slight, negative comment is that the restaurant staff, although very friendly and polite, seemed rushed and under pressure. It was the same the next morning when we went for breakfast - the food was excellent and plentiful but the staff were rushed off their feet and so the service only gets 4 out of 5. Maybe they could put some more staff on to cope with the demand.
Anyway, overall we absolutely loved this place and we are looking for the next opportunity to go back and this time I hope we're able to try one of the executive rooms because if it's better than the standard room, then this place cannot be praised highly enough!
Loved it!

Well, after having read so many poor reviews, it is fair to say we were very hesitant about staying. We were attending a friends birthday in The Pavilion [which was excellent - food was a BBQ with own chef, perfectly cooked], and a few of us booked to stay the evening. We had a family room, for myself, husdband, 7 and 12 year old sons. The room was refurbished and lovely, very clean and comfortable. Fair better than some big chain hotels. Lots of attention to detail. Other friends had rooms, including the deluxe and standard - again all wonderful. Will we be coming back, absolutely!!

My boyfriend and I won a night at Guys at a charity event we attended. I'm not sure what the other reviewers were thinking but take this place at face value. Quaint and Oldy Worldy it's a Thatched old english tavern with lodging! We thought it was just brill. We stayed in room 61 and ate at Owd Nells pub which again was excellent. The pub was packed out when we strolled in at 8 ish and we couldn't find a table anywhere. We asked at the bar about a table through the droves of drinkers having a great time and the chap located us a table no problem. Yes it was wobbly and yes the pub was packed but it was just awesome, exactly what we wanted. More over, the place doesn't pretend to be anything its not. We also visited Barton Grange and had a stroll down the canal.
The ONE and only bad point. The blumming fan, extractor thing drove us crazy all night long. Then my fella figured out how to turn it off as we were making our way to breakfast, which we laughed at alot! Please go and enjoy this place for exactly what it is and what its not! (NB not a fusty, pretentious snot fest hotel, go elsewhere). Thanks to all at Guy's Thatched tavern who made our stay fab.
