“disappointing stay!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

Booked a Saturday night as a surprise for my husbands birthday. The room was allegedly a deluxe executive room.....but unfortunately there was no deluxe about it!!! We had never stayed here before, so were looking forward to it. The room itself was shabby and the standard was not very high. The carpet in the bedroom was dirty and stained in places. Although the bathroom was large and well equipped with a double shower and jacuzzi bath, there was black mould between the tiles. Very off-putting! The electric shaver socket had a good amount of rust on it. The toilet cistern was so hard to flush, that i had to get my husband to do it each time...romantic!!! Cleanliness was poor, there were hairs left in the bath from previous occupants.
The meal we had in Guys restaurant was lovely, with a good atmosphere. We also had the breakfast which was good. The room was 85.00 plus extra for the breakfast and quite frankly it was not worth it!!! Shall not be staying again, but would return to the restaurant.

Room Tip: avoid room number 30

Stayed at guys many times over the years and always find it a nice freindly retreat off the beaten track
Of standard hotels / B n B,s and a different set up all together .

Reception staff are very freindly and curtius as are the waitresses and bar staff .

Rooms are ok clean and comfortable and away from the noise of the bar / restraunt

Food is as good as it was when I stayed here the first time nearly ten years ago .

It is looking a bit dated now but it just adds to the whole rural theme for me as if I wanted minimalist
Modern crap I could go anywhere
In the country for it .

A big thank you to all the staff and management for making our stay
Another great one and see you again very soon

We stayed on the Sunday night special offer as a Birthday treat from my sons. Great value, the room overlooked the canal and near the tavern so not far to walk. Had a fantastic meal in the restaurant,I had the halibut and my husband the aberdeen angus rib eye.The staff are very helpful and friendly. Loved the little miniature train overhead in the dining room.
In the morning there was a full buffet breakfast and free newspaper.
All round a thoroughly enjoyable time in this quirky little place.

Stayed over for a night anniversary treat. We booked the best room with jacuzzi in the room,it's was average considering the price that we had payed. The shower was broken and the decor was very dated and the overall cleanliness was below average.
We ate at the owd neals tavern were the food again was of average quality.
The main fault we experienced was the level of service we received from the manager as we had issues with some drinks in the bar as she was repeatedly watering down the beer when confronted about the situation her attitude was terrible very rude her level of customer service were none existant. Would be advisable for her to have some further training.
Overall atmosphere was good an we didn't let the above ruin our anniversary.

We have spent many weekends at Guys with family and friends over the last 20 years. It doesn't change. The food is amazing, we have had the most delicious shellfish platters prepared by Nicola and the team, specially made for our anniversaries over the years. The atmosphere is great, restaurant is always full and Old Nell's is a good place to meet for a drink.

Staff are lovely and it is a really nice setting. Great in the winter when the coal fires are lit!

Had one of their best rooms - with deluxe tub for two, ( and it was great )
The location on canal side is fabulous - pretty evening stroll.
Food in Owd Nells pub lovely.
Checkout at eleven am is great too ( and it does say in their brochure you can ask to leave later ).
- could hear water pipes above us in the morn a little, but no matter.
Can't wait to go again, :)

Room Tip: - some rooms are upstairs, so just ask for ground floor if you have ability restrictions or heavy ca...
