“Very Nice!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed at this hotel on their 'Friday Night Feeling' deal. This is £80 for a standard double room, a £20 voucher off your evening meal, 1/2 a bottle of wine with your evening meal and breakfast the following morning.

The standard room we stayed in was absolutely faultless. I cannot put a negative comment on anything. I have stayed in many hotels and no standard rooms have been as nice as this. The double bed was huge, all sheets clean, carpet clean, walls looked freshly decorated, bathroom looked as if we were the first people to step into it, very clean and modern. Check-in was fast and easy. We had to pay on arrival.

The evening meal was delicious. The restaurant was full, however we were still served very fast and personally by one waiter. Food was all hot, and they even boxed up my pizza that i couldn't finish.

The only slight downside to this hotel is the noise. I think at the moment it is attracting the wrong type of guest with its offers. Obviously they have to put offers on to keep people coming however i think the offers need to be at a higher cost to not attract groups of friends coming for a drunken night out. There was a group in the room down the corridor from us that were up running up and down till around 2:30am. These were women in their late 40's so i honestly don't think putting the price up would bother them but maybe put some kind of security guard on at night to keep other guests happy and turf the guests out that aren't respecting others.

Minus this, the hotel is amazing and we will go again but maybe take some ear plugs next time.

Rained most of the time and large parts of car park were a lake. Staff were excellent throughout the hotel and most kind and helpful. Food was home made (can recommend the steak and kidney steamed suit pudding with lashings of good gravy) and good value.Looking a bit worn all over and due a refurbishment to maintain past standards is my main criticism.

Room Tip: Stayed in 55. Double bed and wet room for disabled . Parking in front and looking over cricket pitch...

We have been coming to Guys once a year for the last several years and have seen a gradual decline. It used to be a real treat to have a jacuzzi room and eat in the restaurant. Unfortunately, this last trip was a real let down, mainly by the clientele that Guy's seems
to attract at weekends. The room was okay, basic but clean (ish). The pub next door was full of groups of men with tattoo's and it was a bit like a waiting room of a vets, full of dogs
running around (you are allowed to take your dogs in). The restaurant was busy in the evening and the food was very good. The breakfast the day after was also very good.

The main letdown to our romantic weekend away, was a couple in the next room (the walls are paper thin), screaming, swearing, and threatening to smash all the windows in this place, which meant we had no sleep at all. It's not what you want to experience on a lovely night away. The last time we stayed here someone was partying til 3am and then this time fighting/arguing.

Come on Guy's....I am sure you can attract a better kind of clientele than this. I am assuming if you stay over on a weeknight it would be totally fine, but the weekends they seem to just
attract the "wrong kind" of people. It never used to be like that.

Based on our last two experiences here...sadly we wont be visiting again, which is a shame
as it used to be one of our favourite places.

Room Tip: Take your ear plugs if you require a good nights sleep as walls are really thin.

I spend a lot of time in hotels working away from home. There is nothing wrong with standard hotels, but they can become a bity samey. This really breaks the mundane mould of standard chain hotels. Its just bizarre but in a really nice, quirky way. You really have to see it to appreciate the novelty of this place. The rooms are nice and the endearing strangeness of the rest of the hotel does not find its way into the rooms which is nice. Large room, huge bed, good shower (no bath) and well stocked refreshments tray. The staff are extremely friendly- especially breakfast staff. They were great!

My only issue with this hotel is the food. I found it over priced for food of average/ poor quality. Over salted pizzas, seemingly tinned or frozen or very overcooked veg. The salmon was not worth the £11.45 paid. A shame as in all other respects its brilliant.

I have been amazed by reading negative reviews for Guy's!! I have visited Owd Nells for drinks and bar meals many times and have never been disappointed.

Recently I stayed in a spa room and couldn't have been happier with it! It was very clean and comfortable and of course the location is wonderful!

I was joined by visiting friends from London and they were amazed by the place which I had, until then, taken for granted!

After staying in one of the finest hotels (in a suite) in Grasmere the same weekend my 'Southern friends' all said that they preferred Guy's and they are returning this weekend for another stay!

Room Tip: A spa room is worth the extra cost!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for his birthday in August this year and I can't describe it better than perfect. The atmosphere there was so friendly and kind, the room was absolutely spotless an amazing size. The bathroom was out of this world, we booked a meal for later that night and the food was out of this world! After our wonderful nights sleep, we went for our breakfast which was gorgeous! The money was so worth it and hopefully we will be returning next month!
