Owner description: The Gouffre de Padirac, the most famous cave in Europe, is considered as one of the most interesting geological sites in France. After a vertiginous descent, by lift or stairs, of 103 metres, you embark on a boat trip along the subterranean river with spectacular views on the galleries. That's when you discover the "Grande Pendeloque" - a gigantic stalactite of 60 metres high - hanging by a string, it appears to admire itself in the "Lac de la Pluie". You then walk towards the "Lac des Gours" or the "Salle du Grand Dôme" with its 94 metres high vault.

TIP: BOOK YOUR TICKETS ONLINE! (especially in july and august)
TIP: Bring a sweater with you. It's only 12 degrees in the cave.

+ You pay 10,30 euros for one adult. It's not that much. (We payed 17 euros two years ago for one adult in another cave not that far from this one.) So it's totally worth it!
+ You can take the elevator during your visit. The stairs are also an option.
+ You have to take a boat in the cave. Lot's of fun!
+ Free tour during your visit.
+ Breathtaking places, magical feelings, very nice location.

- The tour was only in French.
- I wouldn't suggest the elevator when you're scared of tiny places.
- You can't take pictures in the cave.
- It was very crowded today. We booked our tickets online, but when you didn't... You have to stand in the cue for about two hours.

>> ENJOY YOUR VISIT! It's very nice.

Elevators to level, walking then boat to unique limestone formation caves. Out of the way but worth the journey. Pre book and pay for tickets to avoid wait as tours are number limited and fill up. Have seen caves around the world and this is world class unique. Worth the journey and price.

Perhaps we were lucky when we went, arriving 2.30pm midweek, but the caves weren't over busy. This is a really super place to visit, and takes about 2 hours to go around. Standing at the top of the first sinkhole doesn't prepare you for the other view looking back up from the green depths to the sky 300ft above. There are steps and lifts to choose from to get down to the bottom. However this is not a place to go if you can't manage steps. There were some elderly people, but they couldn't manage to get all the way through the "main gallery" at the end of the boat ride. The boat ride is really super stuff and the "main gallery" at the end is truly huge. The visit is guided by enthusiastic young people who are bi lingual and you go around with a small group. No photos in the grottos, and be prepared to get rained on by a steady dripping from the roof high above. Really a brilliant cave to visit, and even better on a hot day with cool air. You don't really need a jumper, unless you really feel the cold, but a thin rain proof wouldn't go amiss. Spectacular rocks and giant stalactites, with all the power of nature creating as you pass through these caverns formed over a million years.

There is little to say other than WOW,! An amazing cave, excellent polite, friendly and knowledgable staff. Altogether a great experience and for 10€ good value. We took my cousins from NZ who were overwhelmed at the beauty of this river cavern .
