Loved the history and learning about the restoration of the castle. Amazing views of the Alsace. The kids enjoyed touring, but the cold, wet weather dampened their spirits.

So different from other castles and chateaus we have visited. Love the red stone. Lots of walking, over 300 steps to climb and though I have mobility issues and walk with a cane, I managed all 300 stairs. Nice gift shop.

A must see for history buffs traversing through the commune of Orschwiller in the Alsace Region. History and old shopping stalls meet together in this fabulous place.

We arrived after visiting the lovely old town of Riquewihr which is only 30 min away. I am a big castle Fan and really wanted to get to see at least one worthy castle while visiting the Black Forest and surrounding areas.

Parking is free but try to get as close to the top as possible for it’s a very steep road to climb up! For our great surprise – a security guy asked to check our bag at the entrance, something you don’t get to see much on this area but is well understood considering EU terror attacks escalation.

Entrance fee was 9 euro (Adult), there are information brochures available in many languages but all are very cheaply printed… you pay and start climbing and touring the castle at your own pace.

We enjoyed our visit and definitely recommend this castle while visiting the beautiful Alsace region but felt that more thought and effort beyond the regular visit options – maybe offering some more activities could really upgrade the whole experience.

Due to the heavy fog we had no view from the top… but it did add up to the mystery :)

Friends and I visited Haut-Koenigsberg castle during our visit to the Alsace area. Views from this old stone marvel were just awesome...of the picturesque villages in the area, the forest, the Rhine valley and shadows of the Black Forest on the Rhine's other side. It's here you feel the pivotal role the Alsace region had in the WWI era. The old castle was rebuilt by the Kaiser after occupying this region of France. Much is preserved of the earlier era, but areas, including the dining room, were vastly expanded for the greater aggrandizement of mustachioed tyrant. A nice visit in a beautiful part of the world, and well worth an hour or so of your time.
