“Just wow....”
Reviewed June 28, 2011

A Saturday night (weekly) event on the beach at the Mauna Kea, this was the highlight of our belated honeymoon in Hawaii. Obviously you pay for the view ($90 per person not including alcohol) but the buffet food lines were the best I've ever seen. Table one was jumbo shrimp, freshly made California rolls, oysters in the shell & sashimi...all amazing. the main food line was clams, prime rib (slightly overdone for my taste) and half a lobster...all you can eat and you'll want to. I didn't even make it to the starch table (potatoes, corn, etc.) but the desserts (ice cream and macadamia nut chocolate torte) were the proverbial icing on the cake. The sunset was spectacular and the service was attentive but not intrusive. With two drinks a piece the bill was $240...but it was more than worth every penny between the food and view. A must for romantic couples.

“Feast on the Beach”
Reviewed January 18, 2011

This clambake only occurs on Saturdays. It is a seafood Hawaiian style buffet so you can eat as much or as little as you want. The featured items are the steamed Hawaiian grown Keahole lobster, fresh crab legs, and Hawaiian grown prime rib. We stuffed ourselves with the lobster which was sweet although smaller than Maine lobster tails. All the vegetables and salad greens were locally grown. There is nothing like fresh ingredients for taste and texture! Desserts were quite plentiful and the Mango ice cream at the sundae bar was excellent.
The server was always attentive and cheerful bringing new plates and drinks right on time.
The atmosphere was excellent since the clambake was on the beach with the sunset and surf not more than 100 feet away. There was a musician playing Hawaiian tunes as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is a little pricey but we felt like treating ourselves.

“Beautiful Brunch”
Reviewed February 13, 2010

We had a lovely Sunday brunch with a beautiful view of the ocean at the Mauna Kea. The selection of food was amazing and all delicious. I saw a whale breach and it was such a beautiful site. The brunch was a bit pricey but so worth it for the food, view and ambience. It was a special ending to a wonderful week.

We stayed at Mauna Kea and this was a fun evening. Food is plentiful and wonderful, lobsters, oysters, clams, shrimp plus other options for non seafood lovers. Outstanding.
