Just a beautiful, family friendly beach. Trees for shade, few, if any, waves, snorkeling opportunities - very close to resorts near Waikaloa. I think only. $5 fee - a definite for families with small kids.

Beach 69 is a fabulous beach. It has plenty of trees near the water so you don't have sit in the sun. It's not nearly as crowded as Kua Bay and Hapuna. Most of the people on the beach are locals. There are changing facilities. Many people leave during the day and head to nearby eateries like Cafe Presto and bring back lunch to the beach.

The trees mean you won't burn and sweat all day plus they are gorgeous. There is awesome snorkeling and the warm, clear water makes you want to stay in all day for swimming. There were great bathrooms and showers, though no food available. We saw all sorts of fish and primarily snorkeled the northern portion of the cove and beyond the cove, though it was as good when we went to the center and south. This was the only place on Big Island that I saw a ray - a big one just swam past me, during the day. We didn't see turtles here, but endless varieties of fish and a few eels. We also had amazing snorkeling experiences at Keauhou and Honaunau.

Our group was invited by some local friends to meet them here. A few of us snorkeled and the rest played in the sand or relaxed. The snorkeling was great and we followed a turtle around and watched him east.

My vehicle was the first one there when they opened and the conditions where pristine. As we where leaving about 9:30 or so it started to get a bit busier.

Very scenic beach and better snorkeling then Hapuna but the $5 parking and the localism of the beach makes you feel a little out of place. If you snorkel to the north and look at the beach you'll see some people still prefer it a nude beach....
