Jilba has something for everyone. Not overly extravagant, it very comfortable. Everything is maintained in like new condition, from the ever sharp knives to the pristine BBQ. This is a place of peace and tranquility. Surrounded by flowers and located on a working farm, nature abounds. No need to go far to see wildlife, just sit on the verandah to see all the many birds of the area as well as the Roos. Jim and Joan are very welcoming and a wealth of information about the area. You will not be bored! A generous breakfast is provided the first day...almost enough for two days. A sample of kalamata olives is provided, crafted from the 400 trees on the farm. The only problem is that Bill has now been permanently spoiled and finds all the deli store olives lacking. Joan will be glad to pack up some for you to take home. Possibly the only caveat...access to the cottage is via a stairway, possibly an issue for the mobility challenged. You can walk the extensive property or explore the many parks in the area. We highly recommend.
This was our second stay at Jilba Cottage and we will go again. Jilba Cottage is a well equipped, self catering, 2 bedroom unit that is beautifully located in the Porongorups. The views are spectacular and the peaceful environment provided us with 4 days of peace, rest and relaxation. The short drive to Albany or Mount Barker was easily done and we enjoyed the wineries and nearby beauty spots.
Our thanks to Joan and Jim, our hosts, for a wonderful and peaceful break.
Jilba Cottage became our home for one week during the otherwise pressured month of December.
The warm, country-style hospitality of Joan and Jim helped us to unwind quickly into our holiday. Jilba cottage was the cleanest accommodation that we have ever stayed in. It was light, warm and comfortable. The birds, flowers and views from the living space and bedrooms were absolutely beautiful. It is located on an incredible property, with extensive gardens and groves of both olives and avocados.
Jim and Joan’s exceptional regional knowledge enriched our experience in the South West Coast. They were generous in their sharing of geology, botany and regional culinary delights and thus we were this able to tailor our activities accordingly.
We found the location to be a convenient platform from which to explore the Porongurups, Denmark, Albany and the Stirling ranges. For the reasons above, we ended up staying three additional nights - still - we would have loved to stay longer.
I would encourage others to book longer than they anticipate that they would want.
Thank you Jim and Joan, we will be back!
Jilba is an amazing cottage nestled into the Porongorup Ranges. The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed. The views are outstanding.
Jilba Cottage is a very comfortable, extremely well equipped Cottage with stunning views, situated in the Porungorup. It is surrounded by beautiful rose gardens with a great variety of native wildlife species including Kangaroos, Kookaburras, Red winged fairy wrens, and many more. Joan and Jim are wonderful friendly hosts with a wealth of knowledge and advice on the attractions of the area. We were provided with an abundance of food for our first complimentary breakfast - in fact it lasted us for two days! The Castle Rock Granite Sky Walk is close by and in fact the farm can be seen from the top! We only booked for 2 days - we should have booked for much longer with hind sight! This will give us an excuse to return again in the future.
We stayed at Jilba Cottage for 11 days, it was just fabulous. We couldn't imagine staying for a shorter period, there is just so much to see in the National Parks, surrounding districts, and beyond. This area is amazing. The property is so quiet, with just wakeup calls from the ravens & parrots. The cottage is just perfect, with everything one could want. Joan and Jim are awesome people, they are so keen to make the trip a memorable one & so knowledgeable of the area. We loved their visits, Thank you both for a lovely time; for sharing your 'home' with us. We wouldn't hesitate to return, and would recommend Jilba Cottage without hesitation.
My husband and I have just returned from a short winter break at Jilba Cottage.
Can honestly say this is, by far, the best self contained accommodation we have encountered anywhere.
The attention to detail and personal comfort is outstanding.
The hosts are very welcoming whilst at no time being in any way intrusive.
Jim and Joan provide invaluable knowledge about the regions many attractions.
Jilba Cottage, in addition to being exceptionally well appointed, has stunning views and a breathtaking backdrop of National Park. It was great to be so close to the amazing walks and award winning wineries.
Already checking the diary for the next getaway!
