Description: Michelin-starred Restaurant. 4 AA Rosette Restaurant. AA 5 Star Rooms. "This is an extraordinary place, a true one-off. Unbeatable."- Alastair Sawday's. The Black Swan is dynamic with a truly creative and innovative team developing new ideas from a constantly refreshed palate of produce which we grow and forage ourselves. Guests experience something unique - an intimate reflection of our character, our place and our lives which is in essence "Oldstead Now". Stylishly grounded in tradition and culture yet cut through with a modern earthy, exuberant creativity and the occasional glimpse of eccentricity.

A group of us (4 adults, 1 child) turned up without a reservation on a saturday lunchtime at 2pm. We were not sure if we were in time to be served, but they were most welcoming. We looked at the extensive menu but ended up choosing from the sandwich menu. Before the food arrived we were treated to a sample of their soup (amuse bouche if you like!) which was fantastic - my bouche was amused). The whole experience was relaxed but attentive and although we had simple food it was wonderfully prepared and tasted perfect. Not the cheapest, but well worth travelling a little further to find such good service in a charming old pub (especially the seats next to the real fire).

A beautifully executed meal in one of the cosiest pubs I have ever eaten in. The food was local, in season and beautifully cooked and presented. Worth any detour. Can't wait to go back again and have try the full tasting menu.

We have eaten here on several occasions and food the food to be of a very high standard, well informed staff and great British food served with great twist and combinations. Its not cheap so be prepared for £140 per couple. Lunch is good value and in the summer lovely garden area to eat Alfresco.

The dining experience at the Black Swan is excellent from start to finish. Beautiful bar downstairs and wonderful restaurant above. Despite being in the middle of nowhere - which took us an hour and 20mins drive through a storm to get to from Scarborough - it's well worth the trip. Tasting menu is highly recommended. Costs £65 a head and lasts over 2 hours from start to finish. Memorable dished include the tuna tartare starter and two sublime desserts. This is the way eating should be. Beautiful blazing fire downstairs giving the Swan an warming, authentic old English feel. Top marks all round.
