A group of us (4 adults, 1 child) turned up without a reservation on a saturday lunchtime at 2pm. We were not sure if we were in time to be served, but they were most welcoming. We looked at the extensive menu but ended up choosing from the sandwich menu. Before the food arrived we were treated to a sample of their soup (amuse bouche if you like!) which was fantastic - my bouche was amused). The whole experience was relaxed but attentive and although we had simple food it was wonderfully prepared and tasted perfect. Not the cheapest, but well worth travelling a little further to find such good service in a charming old pub (especially the seats next to the real fire).
