Description: Michelin-starred Restaurant. 4 AA Rosette Restaurant. AA 5 Star Rooms. "This is an extraordinary place, a true one-off. Unbeatable."- Alastair Sawday's. The Black Swan is dynamic with a truly creative and innovative team developing new ideas from a constantly refreshed palate of produce which we grow and forage ourselves. Guests experience something unique - an intimate reflection of our character, our place and our lives which is in essence "Oldstead Now". Stylishly grounded in tradition and culture yet cut through with a modern earthy, exuberant creativity and the occasional glimpse of eccentricity.

After a day on the moors in what can be best described as inclement weather, we headed for the Black Swan for an early dinner. We have been here before and were expecting something a little bit special, we were not disappointed. Both of us chose to eat Pigs cheeks & belly for mains, we were given an amuse bouche of White Onion Soup while we waited as a small starter. My wife followed with aged rice pudding strawberries and ice cream and I had the lemon parfait & fresh fruit, the cooking of which was second to none, and seems to be going from strength to strength. If you are in the area I urge you to give the Black Swan a try you will not regret it service and food are superb. The one thing I should say at this point is they are not open for lunch Monday to Wednesday. The closest we have come to this class of cooking was at Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons, so could be a second star soon?

We spent one night at the Black Swan at Olstead to celebrate my husband's birthday and our first wedding anniversary. From the moment you arrive, you are looked after by staff who have that perfect balance between being attentive but discreet.
The rooms are gorgeous with all the little extras that make it feel special, Molton and Brown toiletries, fresh milk for coffee(instead of UHT cartons), home made brownies (instead of packet biscuits) and even an umbrella is provided for the few steps to the restaurant.
We have eaten in many good restaurants and we were not disappointed. The food was beautifully presented, tasted great and the portions were just right. The wine list is extensive with a range for all budgets and once again, the service outstanding.
The breakfast was as good as the evening meal with freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, a quality cooked breakfast for my husband and a lighter goat's cheese omlette for me. Even the honey was locally sourced and the waiter knew exactly where it was from which impressed us.
All this located in the beautiful countryside and we left feeling refreshed and contented and already planning a return visit.

The amuse bouche - a cream onion soup and a cheese straw - was very flavoursome, We chose from the set lunch menu. Our sea trout and belly pork mains were excellent - perfectly cooked and delightful. The gnocchi were particularly good. The lemon puddings with summer berries were very lemony. The service is friendly and efficient. The downstairs bar has character although can be a bit dark. The upstairs restauranr is more light and airy, but has less character. This restaurant provides the best food in the area; it's worth going out of your way for.
