Great property in a perfect location with easy access to the Peak District and all the walks one could wish for. The three day stay was not long enough and hope to be able to return in the near future. Thanks to Louise and Adrian for your help and friendliness during our stay.
I booked this cottage as a base for a group of us to stay for a week long trip to explore the peak district and to attend a wedding (It went well if anyone wondered. "I Do's" were said). The location of this cottage is well and truly out of the way from everything. There is no passing traffic and all you can hear are sheep, birds and the trickling of the stream - Down by the stream is where the 2 ponies live and most importantly THE TYRE SWING!!
The cottage has a well stocked kitchen full of pots, pans, dishes, cups, glasses, utensils and loads more. You do not need to worry about bringing your own.
All rooms have an en suite so if there is a large group of you, like there was with us, you do not have to wait all day for everyone to use the one shower. Unlike many households, the water didn't go ice cold or lose pressure of others were using the water in any other room either.
There is plenty of seating in the kitchen and living room, there is also a very nice garden table set so you can all sit round with a barbecue or a fire.
Inside the cottage there are plenty of games, books, DVD's and puzzles. We were all a bit baffled by the caribbean puzzle as it was 500 pieces but the box advertised it as 18x24 and when we did the maths we realised 18x24 is not 500 it is in fact 432! This made it very tricky to create the edge. I will not divulge the true dimensions as it was part of the fun. As with any puzzle, all the pieces are not there but a previous guest had meticulously cut out a replacement piece from paper.
Now onto Louise and Adrian. They were on holiday themselves when we arrived but they made sure we were sorted and answered all of my many queries before we arrived. Louise also notified me that there was a beer festival in a nearby pub, The Jervis Arms, whilst we were staying there, so obviously we attended. She also gave us advice on how to get there and if you take anything from this review... Listen to Louise's advice, she says it for a reason and we regretted not following it!
There is a public footpath through a sheep field, long grass and lots of mud. The mud was the problem. We ended up at the beer festival covered in mud up to our knees, sitting barefoot, drying our shoes and socks next to our table.
So please do take Louise's advice and wear wellies!
Would I stay here again? Yes
Would I recommend it? Yes
Should you stay here if you crave phone signal? No but I really enjoyed being disconnected from the world and there was always the WI-FI if you needed it
Finally, if you in doubt whether to book this cottage, stop doubting and just book it!
We'll definitely be back!!
We had a great holiday. It was just what we needed. The cottage gives us the opportunity to unwind. What makes it special is the seclusion, the garden to sit out in, the proximity to the lovely scenery (and views) of the Peak District, the log fire for cooler days, and the high standard of facilities provided in the cottage.
We have just returned from an Easter break at your lovely cottage, great location, totally relaxing. The cottage is very welcome equipped, with plenty of logs available for the fire. Your detailed information folder was a great help with plenty of maps and brochures. We enjoyed lovely walks by day in the beautiful countryside and long relaxing evenings in front of the log fire. Thank you for the wonder Easter hamper you left of us too. We would certainly recommend you to our family and friends (dog friendly too, we actually managed to exhaust our black Labrador who also enjoyed her stay).
Cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough. Have just spent a wonderfully relaxing and comfortable family Christmas here and will definitely be re-visiting. Every detail had been taken care of, even down to the Christmas Tree and decorations.
This is a lovely cosy cottage. It was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. When we arrived the wood burning stove had been lit and a hamper of goodies was in the kitchen.
We went for walks in the local area, which is wonderful. In the evenings we warmed ourselves by the stove, listened to music and played board games.
There are lots of visiting birds to watch out of the window, and the two ponies were a great hit with my daughter!
Good kitchen, well equipped.
Very comfortable beds.
Nice clean, warm cottage with lots of space and amenities. We loved watching movies and playing games next to the wood burning stove. Also, great location...close proximity to The Roaches & Dovedale, and only about 45 min drive from our favourite excursion, the Mam Tor Ridgewalk...absolutely beautiful!
