“Fantastic hospitality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

The hospitality at this place is great. The cabins are your standard caravan park cabin, but with a lakeside wooden décor, overlooking the lake.
The road on the property is terrible – potholes everywhere. Having said that, the lady who runs it looks she’s snowed under with running the café, so there is no time for infrastructure improvements.
Customer service is fantastic. There’s not much else in the area as far as accommodation, but expect to pay similar ($128) to what you can get a 4 star motel for in Kingscote on a multiple night special.
We were happy with our stay and recommend it to other - especially families looking for budget accommodation (a cabin has 1Q and 4S bunks)
The café was nice and best visited in non-busy times of the day. It’s open til late in summer and there were not many people come through after about 5pm.

Dont forget to say hello to the koalas that greet you on the trees when you first arrive!

Nature and outback experience. Had fun trying to spot the Koalas on the front tree, chasing swamp hens and geese off the road...Don't expect Novotel, but warm cordial attention and friendly chat....The cabins are tidy, and roomy enough, toilet uses recycled or bore water, hot water is instant gas, good bathroom, clean beds, a good laundry shed, ...not mosquitoes detected, but though we experienced lots of flies in KI, to the point of being mindful when talking...perhaps the summer breeze around the cabins on the lake, kept their number at bay, to the point we ate on the veranda on a nice sunny afternoon...You can actually hear the koalas, and birds...We stayed on cabin number 1.

Room Tip: Cabin 1 or 6? next time..

We loved this place - you can experience the ambiance of the spirit of Kangaroo Island here. While there was a television in our cabin, we preferred the peace and quite of the bushland and lake. The cabins are perfect for those who like to escape the crowds and for nature lovers, with good distance between cabins and a great outlook.

Staff were very accommodating to our special needs, and meals are provided for guests outside of the cafe hours - you only need to advise approximate time you want to eat. We really enjoyed the local whiting served at the cafe.

The location provides easy access to the Sea Lion colony, the sand dunes, a bird and reptile show, and is an easy day trip to Admiral's arch.

Very disappointed as we had stayed in some lovely places on KI. Toilet didn't flush properly, missing lots of kitchen equipment and no extra blankets. Also absolutely no bench space for food preparation or space to put your suitcase. Also lagoon had flooded and mud right up to front porch...full of mosquitoes. Nice frog and bird calls though!

After staying the previous night at Western KI Caravan Park , this place was a real let down. They do meals but only until 6pm mon - thurs , so its back to the cabin early , and with no tv in the cabins ( they are in the process of installing them ) it made for a slow evening.
The place has charm though , but just needs a bit extra if it wants to compete.

We stayed in the hostel which has three large rooms with two bunks in each.
This is a very well located tourist accommodation and our arrival was timed perfectly after a days driving around the Western end of KI.
We were also happy that on the Friday evening, the resort has a license to serve alcohol so we had a tipple or two and chatted with the locals and the resort managers. Very relaxed and friendly!
If we are out this way again then we will definitely stop overnight.
There is Austar satellite on the tv in the lounge room.

We (family with two young kids) stayed one week in one of the cabins while exploring Kangaroo Island. The cabin including the bath, the kitchen and all the linen provided were very clean. The cabin was equiped with all we needed and the veranda was perfect to enjoy with our children in the evening. The owner and his family were very friendly and helpful. Every day at dusk or at dawn we saw wild kangaroos on the field nearby and our children loved to find the koala and explore any further creatures. The location was perfect to explore all corners of the island and our children ask us still quiet frequently when we go back.
