Make no mistake, this place is proper, full on, 'Emporers New Clothes' stuff.

Six of us ate there a few months ago, and laughed like never before - at it, not with it. Each tasteless or bitter dish was funnier than the last.

We are all people who eat out a lot, from 3 star establishments, to Cafe Rouge, to street food, and everything in between. Well Mugaritz, nice try, but you didn't fool us. The theatre bit is all fine, but the one thing that is non-negotiable is taste, and there was none. I mean almost nothing. "No seasoning, because we want you to taste the food" they said. Get outta here. What, every other chef who seasons their food is wrong? Loved the almost apologetic 'yes, we know' look on the face of the waiters who served us, when they realised we had sussed it.

Wine was good though. Knowledgeable sommelier.

Go if you must. It will give you a laugh if nothing else. If you love your food, and have a lot of frames of reference, you'll hate it. If not, and you are easily fooled, you'll have a splendid time.

Before deciding to go to Mugaritz, you should ask whether you are ready for this experience. It is not just tasting food, it is experiencing it with chefs who create it. There is a philosophy in this process. It is like a work of art. the visit of the kitchen is part of
the experience.

This was an amazng experience. They truly played with our minds. Things are rarely what they seem! Presentation was fantastic, each dish an artwork but also full of marvelous tastes. Service is impecable. Yes, it is expensive but also very good value.
Just do it!

This is an amazing food and service experience - unique for every guest. I think to go any further would be an injustice but the minimum requirement is 100 characters.

My partner and I went to Mugaritz as a bit of a treat after living in different countries for six months. Although it definitely lives up to the hype, you do have to manage your expectations of what kind of meal it will be. The 21 courses are all beautifully presented and thoughtfully created. Some were far more delicious than others (if you are lucky enough to get the pigs tail, sweetbread or veal you will be heaven), but offers the diner something very unique and memorable. The highlight for us was definitely the service, probably due to the fact that it was low season so less busy, a visit to the kitchen and the after-meal drinks which were served at the table by the waiter who simply said 'say when' to my glass of scotch on the rocks. Definitely worth visit if you've got the cash to spare!
