“Really small house!”

Located in a private gated (VERY steep) road, DO NOT hire a car any bigger than a mini -the road is very narrow and one or two locals leave their (dented!) cars parked along the side all the time, and the sweep into the drive is quite tight. This house is very small. There are 2 double bedrooms, but the second room has space for literally nothing but a sofa bed in it - no wardrobes, drawers etc, so our friends had to leave the suitcases in the living area all the time. There is no lounge as such - the living room has a dining table wth 4 chairs, a TV, 2 dressers for kitchen stuff and a single bed; we ended up bringing the 2 deckchairs inside to sit comfortably! I have never seen such a tiny kitchen in my life! The (necessary) fridge freezer takes up all the space, although you can cook on the outside cooker if you don't mind being bitten alive by mossies! The air con units were much appreciated, as was the outside shower, and the wifi worked perfectly the whole time we were there. The sea is very close, so for swimmers and snorkellers its perfect - however there is no beach as such, so its difficult to get comfortable sitting on the lava rocks, and for paddlers like me all you can do is to sit on the side of the rocks, beside the ladder into the water, and get wet.

“Seaside house ”

Recently returned from 10 day stay in this property and would thoroughly recommend it as the sea access (not sandy beach but lava rocks) is 1 minute walk away perfect for snorkeling. The house is furnished with everything you need especially air conditioning in the bedrooms. The outside kitchen is a absolute must as it was to hot to cook inside and the outside shower was good if you wanted to rinse off after a day in the sea. A gated complex makes it a secure area and safe if you have children to play as any cars only travel at low speeds inside the complex due to the narrow street. (Photos below show kitchen and road outside gate and up to the main road and down to the sea and also the sea access) as outside areas are in main advertisement.
A car is needed on Sicily as there's so many things to do we went to Etna (take study shoes and warm clothing the day we went it was 35 centigrade when we left and only 15 at Rifugio Sapienza and 10 at the top of the cable car), Syracuse, Valley of the Temples at Agrigento, Taormina and the Alcantra Gorge. Just to echo previous reviews you'll need a satnav as the road signs are hit and miss.
We did walk to Santa Tecla and Stazzo 10 minutes either way with a Carrefour and bakery in Santa Tecla for all your shopping needs.

“Spacious, comfortable and very well equipped property.”
Reviewed September 16, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

I stayed at the property with my wife in August 2014. The house is on its own plot in a small enclave of properties. It is well furnished and quite spacious inside with just about anything you could want supplied - probably the best equipped house of many that we have rented over the years. There are two bedrooms, a lounge/dining area, bathroom and kitchen - however we spent most of our time at the house sitting outside :) where there are tables/chairs, sun-loungers, a swing seat and plenty of space to park a car and all behind a secure gate. An awning along one side of the house provides shade and there are a number of lemon trees and a small herb garden. There is also an outdoor cooking area (oven/hob) which was very useful as it was very hot during our stay and cooking outside kept the added heat out of the house! The bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning units which were most welcome. The sea/rocky beach is just a few steps away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and although we never met Oksana in person she was most helpful at the beginning of our holiday when the airline managed to lose our luggage for two days. (Thank you for your assistance!)

Some other things to consider if staying at this property and they do not detract from the quality of the house: A car is really a must have item if you stay here - if you have not driven in Sicily (or Southern Italy - Naples/Sorrento and south thereof for that matter) before, you will be shocked the first time you do it. The roads are narrow, often with a stone wall at the edge and the locals drive a) Fast, b) Aggressively - any space on the road is quickly occupied ;) and c) without too much notice of the 'rules'. However you get used to it .... make sure you get the smallest car you can get away with and have full insurance cover! Navigation can be problematic as well as road signs on rural roads can be at best confusing or non-existent - a sat-nav and some route preparation can make for a much more relaxed time.

Several reviews have mentioned walking to Stazzo and Santa Tecla - a word of caution. The road has several bends and some local drivers treat them like the Ascari bends at Monza - very tight to the edge and 100mph..... we did the walk to Stazzo in the dark (with a torch) one evening and it was actually very scary....with several near misses.

We can highly recommend La Fornace restaurant for a superb pizza.

During our stay we visited Siracusa, Catania, Caltagirone, the Villa Romana del Casale (stunning mosaics) Taormina/Castelmola and the must do trip up Mt Etna (as well as Catania Airport several times trying to retrieve our luggage.....) The House is well positioned for most of those - all within a max of 90 mins drive - provided you have a car.

In summary, we had a superb holiday and would highly recommend this property.

“Lovely house and garden in a quiet area a few yards from the sea”
Reviewed June 22, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My husband and I stayed here for a week and were made very welcome by Oksana. The house had everything we needed and although the kitchen was rather small there was an outside kitchen which was useful. (The fridge/freezer would be better located elsewhere). There were several areas outside for eating and relaxing and shade under the lemon tree. All the houses in the road are gated and very secure with no parking problems. Stazzo (our favourite) and Santa Tecla are within easy walking distance from the house; the seafront cafe at Stazzo is a must for gelato and a breakfast treat. Very handy for a trip to Mount Etna - something you must do while you're there. We shopped for provisions in Stazzo and didn't need a supermarket for our requirements .
Thank you Oksana; we enjoyed our stay and would recommend your house without hesitation.

“A very nice place to discover true Sicilian life”
Reviewed October 6, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

It's a very lovely house, suitable for a company of friends. We came for a week this July, the house has a private access to the sea, and a private area for barbecues in the evening. The journey will be perfect if you have your own car, as the house is situated in a lovely Sicilian countryside with lemons production fields around! It's a very peaceful place, with nice cafes and restaurants in the neighbouring villages.
