We came across this gem by accident making a wrong turn. We have stayed twice and will be back whenever we get the chance. The cabins are spacious, well equipped, very clean, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Mark and Lori (the owners) are great hosts and are very friendly and laid back. There are great trails for hiking, awesome scenery for photographers and artists, great fishing, and a beautiful little beach with lots of hammocks for relaxing. It's so quiet and peaceful and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to bring the family.

Great place to unwind and relax. The cottages are very clean and have all the amenities. My Family and I truly enjoyed the location. The hosts, Lori and Mark Murton, are absolutely great. They are very accommodating and friendly. We highly recommend this resort for anyone wanting a place to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer...

We stayed at CLC for a week in July, and it's a fantastc place to relax among the tranquil surroundings. Lots of good fishing, hiking and fresh air. The cabins are spacious, clean and the camp area is well maintained. The hosts are wonderful and friendly. The kids had enough things to do like play on the swings, beach area, hammocks, swimming and fishing from the docks and hanging around the fire pit. The lake is perfect for boat rides, canoeing and fishing. The cookie day and hotdog night were a nice touch......Thanks Mark and Lori

Room Tip: The camp has cabins closer to the action or further away, be sure to check out the map befor booking...

Forget the overcrowded, over priced Muskoka cottages. Drive a bit further north and stay at Charlton Lake Camp. This place is a pristine gem! I'm actually reluctant to write this review because I don't want to see hordes of people there next time, haha. This was the 3rd time we've been here. First time 17 years ago under different ownership. Heard few complaints about past owners at the camp fires, but everyone raved about the current owners Mark & Lori. They did not disappoint! Marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers, on the house, waiting by the fire, wood chopped up and ready. Fire stacked up and ready for a match! ?????? WHO DOES THAT ? Home baked cookies by the door one day when we came back from fishing.

The Lake is picture perfect, fishing is great (had 5 pikes on the hook, pulled out 3). If you go at the right time, you will be swimming in a sea of blueberries. Rent the boat and visit the islands. They're full of blueberries!

Cottages are a bit dated, but have everything you need. You're up north, who cares !!! Fresh linens, toilet paper, paper-towels, towels, fridge, stove, plates, cutlery, etc, etc. Just bring food or better yet, come empty and hit the grocery store in Espanola. There's a It's a large supermarket, buy everything fresh. Beds are very comfortable. Really a great place! Visit it, I know we will be back. It was a very enjoyable week...highlight was a honey badger walking behind our cottage. They're not that common that high up.....Honey Badger Don't care!

Charlton Lake Camp is the perfect kayak spot. My girlfriends and I stayed in Cabin #2, a clean, airy, comfortable place with all amenities. Beautiful screened porch with table and chairs for open air meals. Comfortable, clean beds and the fresh baked cookies were wonderful to come back to after a day of paddling. A huge bonus was being
able to launch and take out our kayaks just steps from the cabin.
With Charlton Lake and the Howry River on one side and Frood/Cranberry lakes on the other, we had hours/days of beautiful, scenic paddling pleasure. The hosts had canoes available on Grace Lake so there was no need to portage our kayaks. Grace Lake is a quiet, serene experience.
Just up the road from the camp, a scenic look-out gave a panoramic view of the area.
Charlton Lake Camp is a hidden gem for those who enjoy kayaking.
We certainly will be back!!

Room Tip: If you plan to kayak, ask for a cabin on the water. The shoreline allows for easy put-in /take-out...

Cabin was comfortable, clean and homey. Area relaxing, clean, well kept. Mark and Lori are helpful, knowledgeable about the area, and welcoming. Wonderful camp / cabin experience for our nieces and for us. Plan on returning as soon as we can and have recommended it to other family and friends.

Room Tip: Some cabins are closer to the beach area and others are in quieter area - let Mark or Lori know your...

A group of friends have been going to Manitoulin Island for the past 5 years. We stayed at Charlton Lake this past time and had such a wonderful time. The cabins are very well kept. The bedding is great we shouldn't have brought our own. The have many supplies that we never had anywhere else including toilet paper, paper towel, towels, linens, etc. We were very comfortable and happy there. We brought our 9 month old daughter and she loved it too. The staff are kind and accommodating. The fishing was good. We will definitely be back next year.
