“Makes other 5 star hotels look like a travel lodge in comparison”

The Four Seasons Sayan is beautiful, set in a wonderful jungle location.
If you're looking for the ideal romantic setting for a wedding proposal, this is the place. My new fiancé organised a private dinner on the roof of the hotel on our first night with personal waiter, candles and flowers. He said that the concierge were really helpful in helping to organise this in advance of our stay.

To get to the reception you walk across a really impressive high bridge. The welcome was fantastic, and set the scene for a relaxed, informal, super luxurious few days. Every last detail is thought about, like Balinese sculptures and artworks in the room and welcome notes form the manager.

The food, in particular the breakfast, was lovely. I had a massage outside the spa overlooking the open jungle, which was expensive, but a once in a lifetime experience. And sitting in the spa jacuzzi overlooking the jungle was very relaxing. The shuttle service from the hotel into Ubud was excellent too.
I can't think of anything that could have made our stay any more perfect.

A few bits of advice: We did hear that people upgraded their room once they arrived for a much cheaper rate than if pre-booked. It takes about 90 minutes to get to/from the airport - not an hour as we were told which made return to airport a bit stressful. It's easy to get into Ubud on the shuttle or cheap taxi. Jungle trek organised by the hotel (free) recommended - but not for the faint hearted. Food and drink prices similar to UK prices (expensive for Bali, but not outrageous).

Julia Roberts stayed here when she filmed Eat, Love, Pray - and it was easy to see why!

Room Tip: Looking out from the bar - rooms to the left are more secluded and feel more in the jungle and that...

We are truly happy that you had "a once in a lifetime experience" and would like to thank you for sharing this experience.

As you rightly pointed out, the resort is 'beautiful' with it's design and lush green natural surroundings and it provides a peaceful and relaxing setting for some guests and also a romantic setting for others.

We have taken note of your advice to other travellers and in particular will look into the comment on the distance between the airport and resort.

Thank you once again and we hope to be able to welcome you back to the resort in the future.

Your sincerely

I'm Balinese myself but I can't get enough of this beautiful island! Four season Ubud is one of the most beautiful hotel in Bali. The hotel wowed you already when you arrive and take a bit walk to their lobby. The view just amazing! Tried the spa as well and it leave me speechless, haven't felt that relax for a long time. They also have shuttle car to go to centre of Ubud every 1-2 hour. Really pleasant stay. High recommended!

I never liked Ubud before, but this hotel changed my mind.

Stayed at Sayan Villa, the room is spacious with open air living and dining room outside the bedroom. This villa is located up on the hill overlooking the forest. Very soothing.

The room is still good for its age. The outdoor shower and private pool needs a little more attention though.

Service for me was amazing. Thumbs up!
Price is a bit high, including the F&B and spa. The jacuzzi at the spa is stunning.
I recognizeed that they are doing renovation for the other type of villas. Cant wait to experience it soon.

At the end, i had a truly relaxing trip this time, i didnt go out at all except for dinner in Ubud area, just enjoying the villa, the view, the pool, and the spa. Great experience...

A very unique and special place...very different from the Jimbaran resort on the beach. It is a mystical and spiritual place to relax and be pampered. Gorgeous villa, well-decorated, great outdoor living room and private pool. Nice hike through the jungle with staff member. Friendly staff, beautiful place.

Last week I spent one night at the Four Seasons Sayan. Prior to visiting, I had heard mixed reviews on the resort in Sayan, and was eager to experience it myself. In the spirit of full disclosure, I work in the incentive travel industry, and was primarily interested in Four Seasons Sayan as a property for small, high-end incentive groups visiting Bali. I found it to be pretty exceptional, and for my needs, the only property I would seriously consider in this area. Bottom line - it is Four Seasons impressive. The architecture is, admittedly, slightly odd - think of a flying saucer having landed in the jungle - but somehow - it works. The property is situated on the sloping banks of the Ayung river, so views are pretty much to die for, and the sound of the river is hypnotic. The service - from being greeted by first name upon arrival through to interactions with staff - was first class, very much in keeping with the Four Seasons brand. We were upgraded to a 1-bedroom villa, which was beautifully appointed with an outside lounge area and stunning bedroom - even more stunning bathroom including outdoor shower. The villa was very private, and had its own plunge pool and even small backyard. While this wasn't a river view villa, which is the way to go if you can, it was pretty fabulous. The grounds are spacious and incredibly well maintained, down to the working rice patties on-site. The pool area, though not large, is beautifully situated, right on the edge of the river. Day or night, this area takes your breath away. The spa and gym are located in the main building, and are superlative. Can't say enough here. The feeling of privacy is one of the aspects that make the property so special. So...any concerns I had about the property fell away completely. This is the only 5-star property in the Ubud area, I can guarantee that. And it is well worth the experience.

Room Tip: Villas are incredibly well done. If you can do a river view villa, so much the better. Hotel rooms...

We appreciate you taking the time to write in with this review and want to thank you for it.

We have to admit that we are honoured that you have rated us top of your list of hotels in Ubud with the statement, "the only 5-star property in the Ubud area".

The design of Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is indeed very unique with our circular Lily Pond that you reach after walking across the bridge. As you rightly pointed out, the "grounds are spacious" and combined with the overall design of the resort, our guests get a real "feeling of privacy".

We are glad you had a good experience and will be happy to have you back at our resort. Thank you once again.

Yours sincerely

This was a fantastic change of pace from the Jimbaran on the beach. The place is surrounded by spectacular greenery and inventive architecture. The villas are very well appointed. I love the outdoor living rooms, and outdoor shower. The pool down by the river is really nice, as is the river itself, which you can take a dip in, or watch the rafters float by. This place is smaller than its sister in Jimbaran, but is a nice compliment. Good service, good food.

Room Tip: Spend at 5 days in Jimbaran and 2 days here.
