Visited with 2 friends. The welcome was fine but the waitress who served our food needed some training in customer relations! Apart from the bar, where there were a few locals, the place was empty so lacked atmosphere on a lunchtime. However, 3 of us had an excellent meal whilst the fourth was delivered cold and when reheated ended up as a "mush". Wine and beer were good. Don't think we would return.

We had an excellent Saturday lunch here. Most importantly the beer was well kept and served (Butcombe Bitter and Sharpe's Doom Bar) but also the food was well above average. The vegetarian Feta-cheesecake was wonderful, and the S&K pie was great.
Small but tidy beer garden (more a beer patio).
Service and welcome were fine.
Three main meals, a couple of pints and soft drinks and still had change from £40.
Convenient for the M4 near Bath. Will definitely go there again when passing.

I had the Sunday roast beef, wonderful meat and vegetables and super roast potatoes. The onion gravy and stuffing was very tasty. My husband had the Steak and Kidney Pudding, the pastry was fluffy and crisp and it was full of meat obviously freshly prepared and was enough to feed the five thousand. I forgot to mention the soup which was hot, carefully spiced and seasoned. It was butternut squash and sweet potato puree, lovely, just lovely. We topped off with one strawberry pavlova (we really had no room for It but couldn't resist) with "two long spoons" wonderful. Stopped on the top of Tog Hill enjoyed the view and had a lovely afternoon nap in the car (after all it was time for siesta) and then on home to Bristol.. We are glad we made the effort to find it.. Highly recommended.

First impression was the unfriendly welcome, not even a smile! It appeared the locals were given preferential attention to those seeking lunch. There was a small dog running around which later sniffed around our table. We didn't like this.
However, the food was absolutely delicious!. Presentation was excellent & the portions were more than adequate. We certainly felt we had value for money though I doubt we'll return.

Excellent food , both evening and for lunch. The menu is very varied and the chef will always mix and match.
The portions are very generous so don't over order !
In the winter the fire is lit in the bar which makes it very cosy.
I note the comments that the staff are less than friendly but like a lot of villagers they are reserved until they get to know you.
