“Worst business hotel experience for 20 years”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

My colleague booked me in to this hotel describing it as 'quirky'. The plan being to arrive the night before and be fresh for my meetings the nect morning.

My flight from UK was delayed so I emailed hotel to give them 5 hrs warning. When I arrived there was no one at reception (22:15) so I waited 20 mins for someone to drive down and give me a key. The room, was described as a comfort class room but outside it was 27 degrees, and there was no air con or fan, so far from comfortable for me.

The windows would not open enough due to the internal wooden shutters, and the noise from the road outside was horrendous. Then when the town hall click chid every hour and a neighbouring cockerel started screeching from 3:30 in the morning, then enough was enough.

Thankfully the hotels wifi was working which allowed me to book a room at an ibis and write this review while fighting the effects of enforced insomnia.

We selected this hotel for a short, budget stay on a business trip (80 eur/night) . The reception is very small and a bit disorganized. A narrow and very small labyrinth of vertical stairs leads to the rooms, with very poor lighting and ikea furnitures inside. The bathroom was very small and basic. The curtains were not enough to cover the entire window, hence I have been woken-up by the strong light and the noise from the other rooms. Breakfast was basic but ok. Other colleagues were accommodated in a detached structure of the hotel along the street...
Not clear if the really nice and cozy wellness centre (Thermae, which is not on the same spot but along the street 100 m after the hotel) has also rooms...perhaps better.
PS: If you need a good place for having dinner, you can find the Fenix brewery 200m far from the Hotel. The selection of beer is excellent, so it is the steak.

I did win an arrangement, including massage, whole day of sauna and a night in the hotel, including breakfast. We enjoyed being there, nice hotelroom with small kitchenette, lovely bathroom with bath and a superb healty breakfast. Wellness center was ok, but not that new.

Today again our bi-weekly appointment at Thermae Grimbergen to enjoy sauna and a drink with the friends. Recommendable: don't go in too late to make sure you can savor the different sauna types, the hammam and the pool.

The thermes of Grimbergen are one of places to be, if you want to enjoy a relaxing day. They are easily accessible, and very close to Brussels.

The place is nicely decorated and welcoming, and being there especially in summer time is just fantastic.

What to do? Many things, have a great massage, enjoy the many different saunas, the swimming pools, the jacuzzis, the steam bath...

The therms are opened to everybody, everyday till quite late. They are divided in two parts, one with swim suit, while the other one is naked.

It's also possible to eat at the restaurant of the complex (not tried).

Note that this is for the Thermae Hotel not the spa which is part of the same business and located about 100m away. The hotel is located to the north of Brussels, about half an hour by bus or bus/metro from the centre. It is also accessible directly from the airport by bus (again, about 30 minutes) or of course by car. It is a pleasant, comfortable and very relaxed hotel, good furnishings and very well kept; much cheaper than you would pay for similar quality in the centre of Brussels. The breakfast is excellent - a wide range of good quality food and drink served as a buffet. There is no restaurant in the evening, but there are places in Grimbergen if required. You can also go to the spa which is superb and does have a restaurant; you will have to pay to use the spa if you want to eat there, though you can stay until it closes at no extra cost, it is about 2 minutes back to your room. As a frequent business visitor to Brussels I have stayed several times; the travelling is a bit of an inconvenience, but the hotel, town and spa are a very welcome retreat at the end of the day. I have also stayed for a short break with my spouse and we enjoyed it very much.

Room Tip: The website gives good pictures and information as there several types of room available.
