“Avoid this place at all costs”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

We were attracted to the panoramic terrace and sat down. It took the waiter fifteen minutes to notice us. We asked him for the menu, as we were unsure if we wanted to have lunch or just drinks. He barked at us:"You want to eat, or what?". After that, he threw the menus on the table and shouted if we had reserved the table at which we sat. That was enough hostility for us, and we left the place.

“Shame about the lousy service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

As we learnt, the service here is known to be very bad. We heard that the owners had a bigger restaurant somewhere further away, and now have bought this place and started up here in Chateau Chalon. It would appear that there are three generations of one family are trying to run the place at the same time. It would be a classic set-up for a Ramsay kitchen nightmare...

Anyway... they have the best location in this beautiful village (one of the 100 best in France) and the best terrace too. The food was good, and very well presented (a bit too over presented in the modern - glass plates, extra large bubbly wine glasses, style), but the poor service really annoyed us.

The entrance is badly done (architecturally speaking), so that you don't really know where to go. The 'welcome' for us at least at 8pm was 'Have you got a table for 4?'. Response - "No".... the rest of the conversation was along the lines of 'we've finished', 'excuse me', 'we've got no tables'. Very disappointing when you get the impression that the owners would rather not have your money...

Good food, great place, awful service...
