“Home from Home”
Reviewed October 24, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Last weekend we visited Ampherlaw Farmhouse for the weekend. We had such a lovely weekend and were welcomed and well looked after by Cass and Charlie. The farmhouse was so impressive with the cottage, stables and courtyard. We were so comfortable that it felt like home from home. The attention to detail is excellent which is down to Cass's decorating style and taste the way that it was furnished. Not forgetting the location - as soon as you drive up to Ampherlaw we were so pleased with the gardens and the farmhouse/cottage - we would love to visit again as I am sure in the Summer it will be even more beautiful. The location was great for us as it is in between Glasgow and Edinburgh and the actual countryside is stunning and we took advantage of this by going for walks at the Clyde Valley and nearby Wilsontown - recommended.
In summary I would thoroughly recommend this to other travellers as you will not be disappointed.

I was in the Lanark area dealing with some complicated family legal issues. I needed a place where I would be comfortable and have space and peace to think. I am originally from the Lanark area and I expected to find a run of the mill small cottage to rent. The pictures are nice and the cottage look pleasant so I made my booking.
I was so surprised at the level of comfort, standard of furnishings, and the beautiful view. Everything I needed was already there! The glorious deep Victorian bath allowed me to truly relax. And for a speedy refresh there are two shower options. I lit a coal fire and I felt snug, cosy and safe. I could easily have moved in permanently!
There are lots of excellent small villages in the vicinity, shopping for organic local produce was another delight. The kitchen is well equipped, no need to buy anything.
The surprise (aside from the view) was the dining room which is included in the cottage rental, it is a dream for anyone who likes period furniture and antiques. It is huge and beautiful.
I left a piece of jewellery there by accident, and Cass ( the owner) called me immediately and shipped the ring to me.

“Fantastic best ever”
Reviewed August 31, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Ampherlaw cottage and can only say how wonderful the cottage and welcome was, the local bread was just such a special treat. Cass was a wonderful host with lots of local information and made us feel very welcome. We were within travelling distance of lots of Scotlands best sights, Rosslyn chapel, Edingburgh, New Lanark, Calzean Castle and Loch Lomand.

“Beautiful cottage, warm welcome with blissful surroundings”

Having just returned from a week at the glorious Ampherlaw Farmhouse we both feel utterly relaxed and re-energised. The cottage was easy to find using the provided instructions and our sat nav. A beautiful old country farmhouse is waiting for you on arrival with everything you could need along with a very warm welcome from the owner Cass.

The cottage is beautifully decorated and everything inside is to a very high standard. We both felt at home within 5 minutes. Cosy living and sleeping area with a great big kitchen with everything you could need along with a beautiful bathroom and dining area.

Perfectly located in the very scenic Scottish countryside with lots of walking to be down in the area. We travelled about as well too with easy access to Falkirk, Lanark and Glasgow as well as only 30 minutes to Edinburgh which is literally one road from the house.

I would recommend this to anyone with a hesitation, such a beautiful relaxing area with perfect accommodation.

“Returning to Ampherlaw after a day out was like coming home - only better.”
Reviewed October 13, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

After the challenge of traveling to Scotland from the U.S. (storms, closed airport, diverted flights, extended travel time) Ampherlaw was a blessing. Cass and Charlie are so helpful, offering a friendly welcome, suggestions, and directions. Their restoration/conversion of the annex is wonderful, the site and Cass's flowers are beautiful, and the decor is lovely and comfortable. The location is perfectly situated for day trips to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and the Southlands. After a day out, Ampherlaw is a welcome retreat. We enjoyed our visit so much we hope to return within two years.

Thank you for your lovely review. We felt so dreadful that you had such a horrid journey and start to your holiday. We thought you very resilient!! We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay, even if it was shorter than planned due to your delayed start; and we would love to welcome you again, when hopefully you will have a longer stay and an easier journey.

What a wonderful place to retreat to! The hospitality, welcome and friendship shown by Cass and Charlie, was second to none. It was an instant feeling of 'being part of their family', rather than guests. The converted barn accomodation is fantastic and, surrounded by a superb courtyard, the accomodation allowed us to find the hideaway we sought. We walked and cycled the surrounding lanes and, for the majority of the time, had them all to ourselves (perfect). When we decided to, we took a surprisingly short journey to Edingburgh and sampled its sights and restaurants. Took a ride to Peebles, but unfortunately didn't have no where near enough time to walk the river and surrounding area. Lovely setting. We will return to Scotland soon, for a longer stay and Ampherlaw Farmhouse will be our base, once again. Thanks again to Cass, Charlie and family - your lovely home has made a big impression on us. See you again soon.

“A wonderfully relaxing, well-appointed and above all friendly place to stay”

Ampherlaw Farmhouse is a delightful place to stay. The dining room is spacious with tempting window seats; the kitchen is well-equipped and very modern; and the bedroom/ living room is both large and relaxing. There is a separate bathroom which is roomy and well-appointed. Although situated deep in the picturesque South Lanarkshire countryside, both Glasgow and Edinburgh are easy to access in addition to several lovely towns and villages including New Lanark, Biggar and Peebles. On arrival we were immediately made most welcome by Cassie and Charlie for whom nothing was too much trouble and who epitomised Scottish friendliness and excellent humour. An unexpected delight was freshly laid eggsevery morning. It is our intention to return, confident in the warmth of the reception we would receive.
