We (a couple in our 60s) spent three nights in Penrose Barn, which is a very special place to stay, near Oxford. It is an historic thatched barn on the outside, but with every comfort you could wish for on the inside. Every trip to the UK should include staying in a place like Penrose Barn, simply to experience the splendid oak structure and the internal height of such places. The barn is very spacious, with an exceptionally comfortable, large bed (partly screened from the sitting and dining areas), a large dining table, and a comfortable sofa and coffee table area. The bathroom is of excellent quality and the kitchen is well-equipped. The barn is "end-on" to the road, near parkland and the river, and you do get green glimpses from some windows. Amber is a very friendly and helpful host, and her suggestion of using the "Redbridge Park & Ride" to access Oxford was an excellent one (we had a rental car). Oxford is quite lovely later in the day, when the tour groups have moved on! She had lots of other tips for places to visit and walks to take, and her welcome pack was great after a long drive. We were able to park easily and safely in the lay-by across the road, next to the parkland. All communications with Amber went smoothly and she lives nearby so is readily available for help, if needed. We would happily choose to stay here again, if we were in the area.
Booked this barn rental for me and my husband ( who has recently had below knee amputation of his leg. ) thought it looked perfect for him all on one level. And what a gem it is. Everything you need in a holiday rental. Very comfy king size bed, and excellent shower. Clifton Hampden is close to all amenities of Oxford. And also within minutes of Blenheim palace. Amber this barn is perfect for anyone who wants a lovely get away in Oxfordshire. Will definitely recommend to everyone.
We had the pleasure of staying here for 5 nights in May and found it an excellent place to stay. The main room was roomy, the kitchen had good facilities, the bathroom was modern and well appointed and the king size bed really comfortable. There is a local shop just up the road and the Barley Mow Chef and Brewer is five minutes over the beautiful bridge of the river Thames. Amber is a welcoming host and really can recommend.
Penrose Barn and Amber, the owner, are medicine for the soul. Amber is lovely, accommodating and thoughtful. The cottage is charming and vintage on the outside, contemporary and comfortable on the inside. We rented a car and were able to explore all around the Cotswolds, Oxford and Bath very easily. Barley Mow - the pub/restaurant across the bridge, is cozy with very good food. Planning on returning next year!

Great place, very tastefully decorated, extremely comfortable and incredibly good value - this has the look and feel of somewhere much more expensive. It's also very handily situated for walking along the river - it's right outside the front door. Amber is charming and helpful - highly recommended!
