Unless you are into trains, don't bother. Even for kids.. The only attraction we liked in this place was the mini train, but that is nothing but an extended version of the train in the malls and arcades where even adults can sit. Other than that, they have a movie about trains.. nothing but a movie of all the places the trains go. Lots of old engine replicas and some good old engines.. But this place is so far away from montreal (30 minutes) that it is lot of waste of time unless you are into trains...

In addition to the trains and street cars, lots of pieces of history, like the school car that made a circuit, educating children and adults in the farm country, and the locomotive that pulled the King's train. Much more than you can see in a day. Stay away from the Greek restaurant across the street. Food's okay. People are hostile.

We went as a family. Lots of parking and a huge museum to enjoy! We found the child friendly areas of amusement were just enough to keep the kids entertained as the place is huge... So there is lots at which to look and enjoy, with space for the kids to have some excercise. The train ride around the locale is fun, too. Nice staff.

We've been 3 times to Exporail and it's always been a fun time. The museum is a combination of inside and outside exhibits. There are lots of trains, historical information on trains, as well as a mini train ride and a trolley ride around the grounds. My favourite is the rural school train. My son's favourite are the rides of course.

We took our almost 5yo little guy to the train museum on our way out of Montreal. We really wanted to hit the Botanical Gardens, but read some unfavorable reviews and decided in the end, that with the time available to us and almost the same price it was better to just try out the train museum instead. I'm so happy we did because it was very easy to find (without a GPS even), had free parking and wasn't crowded in the least. There were several cars you were allowed to enter and the kids discovery cars were slightly entertaining.

I had read in a review about the entertaining scenes in the model train room and spent a good while searching and finding them...too funny.

We were there for a couple hours and my only real complaint was that by the time we finished touring the main building the trolley was about to shut down for lunch and we almost missed it. Maybe I would recommend doing this first and then you can get the mini train ride in too.
