I am a regular resident and can thoroughly recommend Hanul Cetatii as a base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. The food is traditional Romanian cuisine and always well cooked and presented. The bar and pavement terrace are family friendly and many drop in for a coffee or a soft drink. In the summer families are often seen playing board games on the terrace. The rear courtyard, complete with BBQ and traditional bread oven, offers further outdoor seating with fine views of the Cetatii (citadel). The first floor restaurant provides indoor seating, ideal for when the weather is cold. On the top floor is an area where residents can relax (or work). The staff are friendly and they quickly make you feel at home. There is free wifi throughout.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter

Definitely a five star experience and although I was only able to spare two nights I was wonderfully well looked after. Beautiful Spring weather added to my enjoyment. For reasonably priced, quiet, comfortable accommodation you cannot beat this pension.
Also whilst you are there, check out the Transylvania Food Co 1km away where you can taste products or buy home produced jams, preserves etc

Room Tip: Maybe better towards the rear of the property as the front faces onto a main road with big trucks passing.

The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern. All with en-suite shower rooms. Breakfast is ample, eggs how you want them, omlettes etc. The courtyard is a lovely setting for lunch or dinner, but there is an indoor restaurant for the winter. All freshly home cooked Romanian food by Lydia the owner. Excellent value...

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are very quiet, no traffice noise.

Hanul Cetatii (which means 'The Castle Inn' in Romania) is perfectly situated in the village of Saschiz. The view from the restaurant garden at the back is lovely, looking up the hill towards the castle itself. The garden is full of artifacts collected from around the village, some of them labelled. There's a barbeque which I image is put to good use, and wooden table and chairs under the shade of the barn roofs and in the turrets in the back garden. There are also a few large tables out front if you prefer to sit out there with a cold beer and watch life in the village.

The rooms are spacious, although there are some beams in some rooms that might bother tall guests. The rooms are clean and the beds are pretty comfortable. The bathroom is large, although as the water is mostly from wells and heating by in-room boilers, the pressure can be a little low at times and you might want to use the hot water sparingly if you room mate is going to shower afterwards. Get a room at the back if possible to avoid excessive road noise if you're a light sleeper.

The food in the restaurant is reasonably priced and the portions are large. Cater for about 5-7 Euro per person. Beer is about 1 Euro. The breakfast was including in the price and is chosen from a few options off the menu; eggs, omlette, salami, cheese, bread, and a hot drink. One night's accommodation cost 80 RON based on 2 people sharing a double, which is about 18 Euro.

The owners are very hospitable and keen to help or advise.

The clocktower and the fortified church are about 100m away, as is the Adept Tourist Information shop, which sells books, leaflets, locally-made jams and relishes, and gives out tourist info. The castle is probably about 45 minutes walk from the inn up the hill. A moderately easy walk with spectatular view - well worth doing if you want to build up an appetite.

There's no off-road parking but you can leave your car out the front of the inn or in the plaza by the town hall 50m down the road.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back - the hotel is on the main road and you do get some truck traffic through the night, which might bother light sleepers.

You have to sleep at least one night!
It's wonderful! I slept in one of the back yard room. And I had a great view of the citadel. It was absoluty fantastic.
They have 6 rooms. so you can come with all your friends.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter
