We stayed almost a week and were completely satisfied with our stay at this B&B. Two spaceous and spotless rooms with bathroom, WLAN access, heating, if necessary, in a quiet surrounding in a little peaceful village about 6 km from Chinon. The owner is taking every effort to make his guests´ stay a pleasant experience and prepares a great 4 course dinner for them if they order it in advance. The perfect place for exploring the Loire valley around Tours. If you do not want to stay in the city of Chinon this accomodation is a real gem. You need a car to access it.

We stayed with Manfred and Eleanor on the first night of our recent trip to southern France. Manfred is an unassuming chap with a very gentle manor and a great smile, Eleanor is just great !

We stayed on the bottom floor of their wonderful out building, it has been finished by Manfred to a really high standard, he is a long standing hotelier and it is obvious that he knows what customers want.

The living room is a generous size but the bed is enormous and very comfortable. We did find the pillows a fraction on the small side but they all are in France it seemed to us. The bathroom is superb, beautifully finished and with a great shower.

Breakfast was on the first floor of the main house, ask Eleanor about the bench, she is very proud of it, also the staircase is a story on its own. The room is massive and cosy all at the same time. We ate with 2 German guests, Peter and his lovely wife and were joined in between waiting on us by Manfred and Eleanor. We really did not want to leave, they are truly great hosts, it is a shame we could not stay there on our way back.

Before leaving Manfred showed us the wine cellars, these were created when the rock was mined to build the house and outbuildings, you will be surprised how large they are.

We can assure you of a wonderful stay with perfect hosts, good luck to Manfred and Eleanor for the future, we hope to pass by again one day.

Room Tip: We only stayed in the downstairs rooms but were assured that upstairs was as good.

My wife and I visited Chinon in August 2011. Clos de la Garde was perfect! We were welcomed with wine in the garden by Manfred our charming and welcoming host. We had dinner on the balcony - lovely home-cooked food and great wine - the man knows his stuff. The suite was spacious and clean, with separate living room, bedroom and bathroom. We will be back and hope you too try this delightful pension.

Our room in a lovingly restored outhouse consisted of a large living room, a bedroom and an en suite bathroom. All beautifully decorated.

The garden and grounds include caves that Manfred has made into a wine cellar. We had dinner on the first night which was excellent with a lot of the vegetables coming from the garden.

Manfred and Eleanor are very attentive hosts. They have good knowledge of the local area and were able to make suggestions of restaurants and attractions to go to.

Breakfast and dinner were both fantastic - Manfred is great chef.

Manfred and his lovely wife Eleanor were fantastic hosts. They spent time with us and made us feel right at home. The gardens and wine caves are spectacular. We had a delicious meal made from the fresh vegetables grown in their garden, and watched the sun set while dinning on the patio. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and demonstrated great craftmanship. We just wish we could have spent more time there.

such a friendly reception, a wonderfull house, a marvelous bathroom, a beautiful room even with a living room. Our only regret: it was too short.
