We booked the Dorset Arms for 20 girls on a Hen Party for one night. Having read the first review on here , we were slightly concerned about what we were letting ourslelves in for. However , we were pleasantly suprised ....

The Dorset Arms is a local Pub set in a residential area in Walsend, which is only about 10 - 15 mins in a taxi to the Quayside ,which costs around £7. The landlord and owner Jason and Stan made our stay a very pleasant one. We booked all of the ten rooms and basically took over for the weekend. We only had 2 bathrooms between the 20 of us , but we managed fine with these. ( for £28 a night , your not going to get 4 star treatment) , however what you do get is service with a smile and made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble and we even got Stan to cook us some food before venturing out for the night. Cheers Stan !!

The pub also has a mini bus that they use and will run you into the Quayside and also collect you when your ready to put your head down for night.

Breakfast was served at our leisure and is basically cereals , toast and yogurts. If you wanted you could have a full english for £2.99 per person ! Bargain !!

All in all , a fab weekend had by all. Would we go back , well of course we would.

If your looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful , then this is the place to go.

was very sceptical after reading first review but had great time all staf very friendly rooms/showers all clean and in full working order, Yes night life was a little further than thought cost over £10 in taxi one way, not sure about if chef was away when we went as bar snacks took a fair time to come but other than that very satisfied , i would reccomend this place more for lads or stag partys rather than girls, but again had great time and DORSET ARMS 8/10 easily

Do not stay at this pub/b&b. A big group of us stayed at this b&b in november.

Website is very misleading.

Just a local boozer with 8 rooms above it.

website states:

1)4 miles from Newcastle City Centre.

:More like 8 miles

2) Friendly staff

:We only saw one unfriendly member of bar staff through our whole stay. She was left to serve drinks to punters aswell as sorting the rooms out.

3) No ensuite facilities. We had to share 2 bathrooms between 21 girls.

4)Rooms were tiny. Some had five beds shoe horned into one tiny bedroom (more room in a prison cell).

5)No tea/coffee making facilities. Website stated that there was!!

6)No cooked breakfast. Just cereal.

We payed £25 per person per room. That meant we payed £125 for a room that had five beds squassed in. 2 of us having to share a double bed!!

We have stayed in loads of b&bs with lots of beds in one room but none as small as this!!

There are so many more b&bs in Newcastle that offer a much better standard of accomodation for the price we had to pay.

Upon reading this response I felt hurt and angered. Our b&b is to the highest standards and we have NEVER had 21 girls stay. Our bed and breakfast only has the capacity to sleep 15 max.
Also, anyone that CAN READ a map can see that our b&b is only 3.5 miles from the city centre. Plus, all guests are informed that breakfast is continental NOT full english. This is also stated on our webpage. We have many satisfied customers that can be seen on our homepage testimonials.
