I can’t say enough wonderful things about Kaibo’s Upstairs restaurant. It was by far our best meal on the island. THE FOOD: amazing. My husband had the tasting menu and each course was more delicious than the next (I helped myself to a little bit of each), and he was pleasantly surprised at the generous portions. I had the fabulous mahi mahi, ginger infused rice and quite possibly the best key lime pie ever. ATMOSPHERE: beautiful. The open-air patio was draped in white fabric, with lovely flowers and lights on the tables, and a view of the sand, palm trees and tiny twinkling lights of distant Seven Mile Beach across the sound. SERVICE: outstanding. The staff was so genuinely kind and helpful - offering great suggestions and flawless service. On a personal note, my husband and I were there for a very special evening – we arrived holding an envelope from our doctor that would let us know the gender of our baby who is due this spring. We mentioned this to our waiter and he was excited for us, checked back later once we’d opened it to congratulate us on our baby girl, and made us feel so special on our very magical evening. I can’t recommend Kaibo highly enough!

Kaibo Restaurant upstairs has a beautiful, posh & hip vibe from the moment you walk in to the bar area. The outdoor dining on the balcony with the draped walls overlooking the beach and water add to the ambiance.

The food was wonderful. In fact, the watermelon salad was such a unusual combination (greens, watermelon cubes, feta, toasted pumpkin seeds, pickled red onions lightly dressed with a balsamic vinagrette) that worked so well that I came home and made it for a dinner party the following weekend! I also enjoyed the grouper and was happy, after talking to the waiter about my dilemma of an entree choice, that I tried it. The guys enjoyed the filets and the pork and my daughter enjoyed her special order of grilled shrimp.

Two reasons I did not give this an excellent rating....
1-The hostess and the bartender were the only staff working that night...they were also the waiters for a packed house and it took over an hour to get our food. We ordered appetizers that never came and drinks were not replenished.

2-The waiter assured us the chef would be fine to make an entree of grilled shrimp with rice for our daughter. The "entree" came out on a salad plate with three shrimp and a 1/4 cup of rice! She is 13 not 4...we asked if they could bring us another plate of three shrimp so she could at least have a meal...the hostess/waitress was hesitant saying it would "take time" but she complied and the next three shrimp came out quickly.

Overall, it was a good dining experience knowing that the hiccups were because of a lack of staff to attend to their guests on that particular night. We all decided we would return because the food and ambiance was delightful and certainly the best on the North side.

While in Grand Cayman if you are looking for a friendly and fun open air bar with excellent lite fare, delicious drinks, a casual beach atmosphere plus the opportunity to meet interesting people, then downstairs at Kaibo Yacht Club is for you. If you want fine dining in a gorgeous Island setting, world class cuisine overlooking the water with friendly, professional wait staff may I suggest upstairs at the Kaibo Restaurant - it will surpass your expectations. I know, I live in Grand Cayman and the Kaibo Yacht Club is where visitors and locals alike enjoy socializing and dining. Last week 14 of us went to the upstairs restaurant and had an amazing time, gorgeous food and fantastic service.

Kaibo Upstairs is one of the best restaurants on the island, it is difficult to fault the food or service. The tables and restaurant presentation and views are beautiful.

When the upstairs restaurant is not open the beach bar sells good food too, but the "must do" is the Luna del Mar on the night of the full moon - this is an awesome experience - fine dining on the beach, sadly it was a bit cloudy and windy when we were there in November but hoping for better weather next year.

We chose the upstairs Kaibo restaurant (2 couples) for a nice evening out without an input, just based on advertorial in a Cayman dining magazine and were not disappointed. In fact, in was one of the best dinners during our two weeks on Grand Cayman primarily because of the lovely setting and elegant food. The upstairs is beautifully decorated in a Caribbean greathouse style with A/C inside around the bar. We dined outside by the wood railing with a lovely view of the beach, palms and boat docks below.
Our friends enjoyed it enough to buy a gift certificate as a gift for our hosts at the house where we were staying (arriving just after we left.) Our only regret is that the upstairs is not wheelchair accessible so one of our relatives could not enjoy dining there after he arrived this winter. Also, it was only open on weekends in early January so it was important to plan ahead.
The location is near Rum Point, so it is a good distance from Seven Mile Beach, but not far for those staying on East End.
