“Weekend break at The George”

A warm welcome and an immediate sense of a well run place with a professional aura. We stated for two nights in the four poster Castle suite and loved every minute of our stay.

Excellent food, comfy armchairs and a range of local ales, what more could you want.

Gordon and his dedicated team doing a fantastic job.

Highly recommended to all.

Dave and Mandy

Room Tip: Must be the Castle suite

We stayed one night (Sat 18 Jan). Room absolutely superb - we had the room with the four poster bed. only slight niggle is we couldn't open the bedroom window and the room was warm, after adjusting heating. Otherwise a super location. Staff lovely & real ale super. We had a private function with catering in the evening - the food was lovely

Room Tip: The four poster bed room is great.

What a superb Hotel! the staff were super and attentive even on a very busy night,we stayed on a Saturday just before Christmas. They had a very busy night with group bookings but this did not effect the service at all it was excellent! first class all round.

Room Tip: We chose the four poster and sleep quality was excellent and the bed didn't creak once!

We love The George, having stayed on a previous occasion and sent friends there to eat and to stay. We would be regulars if we lived closer. This year we booked a 3 night dinner bed and breakfast New Year break along with friends (including 4 legged ones who are made very welcome!)) to celebrate two birthdays and a retirement. Nights one and three were brilliant but on the second night we had to drive some distance to find a restaurant since no dinner was being served, only to return at 9.30 for drinks to complete darkness as apparently the bar was shut early. The staff at the George work extremely hard and we understand they need a break but it would have been courteous to have informed residents in advance. We were offered lunch in lieu of dinner but we don't take lunch after a cooked breakfast, and the early closing was not even mentioned. Apart from this unfortunate set of events which can only have arisen from some avoidable administrative or managerial communications problem, we could not fault the very comfortable accommodation, delicious food or excellent service - particularly the female staff who remained ever helpful and charming in spite of it being an obviously extremely busy time.

We visited in the 3rd of January 2014 and had a visit to longleat safari park booked for the next day!!
We arrived and enjoyed the atmosphere at the bar straight away, the staff were extremely helpful, welcoming and friendly - we enjoyed a cold meat platter that was gorgeous and filling and at a bargain price. Followed by a few drinks before retiring for a lovely nights rest.
When we had breakfast in the morning the staff were again delightful and so so friendly especially the 19yr old waiter with the curly hair, the breakfast was mouth watering and they waved us off as we left!!!
Excellent hotel, excellent service, excellent food and delightful staff- WE WILL VISIT AGAIN!!! Danielle Tracey and Paul x

Booked for three nights bed, breakfast and evening meal over the New Year, New Year's Eve had a buffet, New Year's Day found out at last minute that the kitchen would be closed after lunch so had to find alternative, when we got back found the hotel in darkness as they had closed at eight, and nobody had let us or our friends know.
But after saying that the food was very good, the rooms clean and beds very comfortable, the staff were excellent and friendly at all times. Would have rated them five but for the communications problem between management and staff.

The George was recommended to us by our friends when we told them that we wanted to escape from Birmingham after Christmas! What a lovely escape it proved to be...opposite a real castle in the middle of a very pretty village. There was plenty of parking in a walled car park and then it was if we had stepped into the most beautiful space with glowing fires, soft lighting and a genuinely warm welcome. The atmosphere is both classy and relaxing, and you really do feel at home not just because of the comfy sofas but because that's how the staff make you feel. Our bedroom was decorated in the same sort of comfortable contemporary style as the downstairs and with a view of the landscaped walled garden outside, which we sadly weren't able to sit in because the weather was foul! Dinner and breakfast both had varied menus and tasted hand-prepared. We especially liked the mixed fish platter and the baked Brie starters but all the food was lovely. By the end of our stay we had just fallen in love with place and the people! So now we'll be recommending the George at Nunney to everyone ourselves.
