Just returned from our annual trip to France which this year included a few days at Le Chateau de Balazuc in the Ardeche . What an amazing place a castle perched on high above the Ardeche
river with stunning views.
Luc and Florence were delightful hosts and we enjoyed their company very much. Florence wrote out an itinerary for a day which we followed to the letter. This proved to be an excellent scenic adventure which we commend to others.
Thank you Florence and Luc - next visit will include canoeing!

Everything. The proprietors of chateau Balazuc made our short visit one to remember. The location itself is one of a kind, in an 11th century home, with a view overlooking Balazuc. The evening apertif allowed to meet our other guests and the breakfast the next morning was delectable, and local. Would recommend to anyone up for a unique rural experience.

We spent four days at Chateau de Balazuc and our experience surpassed our high expectations brought about by other reviewers comments. The hospitality afforded by our hosts, Luc and Florence, went beyond the bounds we have ever experienced and we have been to some fabulous places in the past. Accommodation could not be faulted in any way. The breakfast and Florences home cooking a delight. The whole Ardeche experience was also unexpected. Caves, great hiking trails, vineyards, fabulous river and mountain vistas, friendly locals means we will be coming back soon to do the things time did not allow us to complete. Thank you Luc and Florence for allowing us to stay in your lovely property.

I stayed 6 nights in this beautifully renovated chateau with my son the week before Easter. We used the place as a starting point for canoe trips. Perfectly located, the Fazao canoe location is only a 5 minutes walk so that the car could stay at the parking. After the canoeing we used the host tub to relax. Luc, the host, served us there perfectly with apple juice and white wine so that we could concentrate on the nice view to the Ardeche river rocks. Around 19.00 the guests usually meet for an apero - a perfect occasion to spy the others. One late night we sat in front of the chimney after dinner. The room was excellent, the only thing missing was a bathtub. In the morning we enjoyed the international breakfast, every wish was fulfilled and we even got Mousse aux Chocolat. We could also prepare a small pique nique with the help of Florence from the table - exceptional compared to usual habits in hotels.
We also liked the cats, the sofa, the books, the Wifi speed and the Entrecote at Chez Paulette ....

Room Tip: We had the room with the river view which we can recommend.

Run by the very lovely Luc and Florence, this stunning castle sits on top of the very nice village of Balazuc. We arrived with 2 small kids, having missed the fact that it's not suitable for kids, but they were thoroughly accommodating and looked after us extremely well. Lovely rooms as well.

Like everyone else on TripAdvisor, we had a perfect stay at Chateau de Balazuc. We stayed in the Remparts room which has a terrasse for lounging. Luc & Florence make you feel very welcome - we loved the aperitif at 7pm with the other guests. There are only 4 bedrooms, so you very quickly get to know the other guests. (I told Luc that I was proud to count myself among his 1000+ best friends).
What I liked (apart from the amazing setting, delicious breakfast) - little things like fresh water and nespresso machine in the rooms, the apéro in the evening. I also had a lot of fun playing the piano in the main room.
Don't forget your swimming costumes - if it's warm enough (it wasn't for us in late October) there is the pool and if not there's the jacuzzi (which was very nice in late October).
Please note - this is a place that is geared for grown-ups - if you have children (I do, but not with me for this trip) there are probably more child-friendly places.

Room Tip: Remparts room has a terrace. Gorgeous (actually kind of unbelievable) views.

An amazing chateau, a part of history yet luxurious, a place where you can unwind, receive amazing hospitality, enjoy delicious food!
Balazuc its self is lovely town to walk through if you can appreciate "old towns" untouched by modern society. The L'Ardeche River is walking distance where you can swim or kayak, or you can take a walk to the other side of the river to see the small village of hamlets been restored (only accessible by footpath).
I would recommend a minimum 2 night stay to enjoy the sites as well as enjoy some down time by the pool soaking the sun in.
