We have stayed at Vali’s Non-Smoking homestay for 10 nights and we quickly became part of his family before realizing it.
The homestay is centrally located in Mashad. With a bus stop and Metro station within 100mtrs of the house and within walking distance to all the amenities a tourist would require. The Homestay has a 5 bed dormitory downstairs and a room with a double bed. Shared bathroom and toilet and the shower has 24/7 hot water. It all has a very homey feel, the beds are comfortable. Wifi, laundry is available for a small charge.
His wife, Esmet is one of the best homestyle cooks in Iran and every night we feasted on a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes. She has a wide range of different traditional Iranian meals and we never ate the same thing twice. Other travelers also commented that even the food at some of the better restaurants in Iran came second to her meals.
Both breakfast and dinner are big portions and as cyclists on a world tour, this was very important for us. Also you can drink as much tea (ie black or herbal tea) as you like free of charge and its some of the nicest we have ever tried..
Vali also helped us with our Turkmenistan visas (it was all PAIN free!), and he can help you with your Kyrgyzstan/Afghanistan visa as well. He has a wealth of knowledge about Mashad and its regions as well as were the best shopping is and how to manage the transfers around Mashad, Iran and it neighboring countries He also offers different tours around the region for his guests, the tours within the city are free of charge.
Overall we really enjoyed our time at Vali’s Homestay and would defiantly recommend it to any traveler on a budget, looking for somewhere clean, friendly and safe in Mashhad.

Room Tip: Vali's is a family home which also hosts travellers as a home stay.
