We had lots of recommendations to stop and have apple pie here so on our way to our next destination we stopped and was rewarded with an amazing piece of apple pie
Solitaire is a quirky little place full of interesting little cars and buildings. My husband described it as an oasis in the desert. If you drive past you will have missed an enjoyable visit

With the sad passing of Moose McGregor, Solitaire seems to have lost not only its guiding light but its soul and raison d'etre. 7 years ago the little place was buzzing. Everyone queued amicably in the General Store for their apple pie served from huge trays and then ate outside on the benches. The store itself also benefitted from so many people milling around, waiting for their pie. Moose himself built the bakery, which immediately detracts from the store. We had hyped the apple pie to our daughter and at 9 a.m. were looking forward to apple pie for breakfast. We could have had anything but apple pie, which apparently wouldn't be ready until 10.30. Given that the apple pie is what most people top at Solitaire for, it doesn't seem to make any sense to not have the pie available throughout the bakery's opening hours. We certainly weren't interested in eating anything else. How sad for Moose's memory and legacy that whoever is now running the bakery doesn't understand that without apple pie on tap, Solitaire just isn't Solitaire.

We've been there a few times now and seeing that the place becomes more and more shabby. Very unfriendly staff, the place is dirty and not well looked-after. The toilets are a mess ..... Complaining with the Manager doesn't help, just receiving cheap excuses. Definitely the last time we stopped for breakfast / lunch - unfortunately the only place to get fuel....
The "famous" bakery - only poor quality left - what a pity!
We will not recommend this anymore to our guests.

We stopped on our way through and the apple pie was great in fact we called in again on our way back. Solitaire is an interesting place - lots of old cars including a Morris 8 like the one I learnt to drive on!. Also meerkats, ground squirrels and a very helpful tire repair guy who got us out of trouble
